What is a senior sales development representative?

Senior Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) are experienced sales professionals responsible for identifying and qualifying potential customers for a company’s products or services. They focus on generating leads, nurturing relationships, and setting up meetings or demos for account executives to close deals. Senior SDRs often mentor junior team members and help refine outreach strategies to meet sales goals. Their expertise allows them to handle more complex accounts and contribute significantly to the sales pipeline.

How does a senior sales development representative typically collaborate with account executives and other sales team members?

As a Senior Sales Development Representative (SDR), you play a crucial role in the early stages of the sales cycle by identifying and qualifying leads. You'll frequently collaborate with account executives to share insights about prospects, develop tailored outreach strategies, and ensure a smooth handoff when leads are ready for deeper engagement. Regular communication with marketing teams is also common, as you help refine messaging based on feedback from conversations with potential clients. This collaborative environment fosters learning and provides opportunities to contribute to team goals while expanding your sales expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior sales development representative, and why are they important?

To excel as a Senior Sales Development Representative, you need a strong understanding of sales processes, lead generation, and account management, typically supported by experience in business development or sales roles. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, sales engagement platforms, and data analysis tools is essential for tracking and optimizing outreach. Exceptional communication, resilience, and relationship-building skills help you connect with prospects and collaborate with internal teams. These competencies drive pipeline growth, ensure effective lead qualification, and contribute to overall revenue success.

Key responsibilities

  • Own outbound prospecting across a defined enterprise territory by researching target accounts, identifying stakeholders, and executing multi-channel outreach.

  • Build pipeline through partner relationships, including joint campaigns, and keep CRM accurate while hitting monthly targets.

Job description

Welcome to the Agentic Commerce Era At Commerce, our mission is to empower businesses to innovate, grow, and thrive with our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. We believe in harnessing AI responsibly to unlock new possibilities, and we’re looking for individuals who use it intentionally to solve problems, accelerate outcomes, and expand what’s possible in their role. Our purpose is to help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers who shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you. You have been prospecting. You have been hitting your numbers. Now you want to do it as an Enterprise SDR at a bigger scale, into bigger accounts, with a sharper motion around you.

As our Senior Enterprise SDR, you will be the first voice enterprise prospects hear from our team: earning the right to a conversation through sharp research and deliberate outreach, then qualifying with the rigor that gives our Account Directors something real to work with.

What You'll Do:
  • Own outbound prospecting across a defined enterprise territory: researching target accounts, identifying the right stakeholders, and executing multi-channel outreach across phone, email, and LinkedIn.
  • Book and hand off qualified meetings to Account Directors with clear context, confirmed fit, and a warm transition that sets the next stage up to succeed (we’re a MEDDPICC org).
  • Collaborate with Account Directors on targeted account lists and vertical‑specific outreach strategies across retail, apparel, sporting goods, food and beverage, technology, and B2B distribution.
  • Build pipeline through partner relationships, including joint campaigns with agency and SI partners, owning outreach, follow‑up, and meeting creation end to end.
  • Keep your CRM accurate and current, and hit monthly targets for meetings booked, opportunities created, and pipeline sourced.
Who You Are:
  • 1+ years of SDR, BDR, or outbound sales experience with a demonstrated track record of hitting pipeline targets.
  • Real outbound experience: you have built sequences and worked cold accounts, not just qualified warm inbound leads.
  • The ability to engage senior stakeholders credibly, including VPs and C-level contacts who have no obligation to take your call.
  • Familiarity with SaaS and/or ecommerce is a plus.
  • If you have sold into marketing / eCommerce teams at retail, apparel, sporting goods, or B2B distribution and/or manufacturing, that context travels well into this role.
  • Experience with Salesforce and a sales engagement platform.
  • Genuine curiosity about modern prospecting and AI‑assisted sales workflows.
Work Where You Thrive

For candidates based in the Austin, TX Metro area, this role follows a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the office to balance focused individual work and meaningful in‑person collaboration.

Pay Transparency
  • Pay Transparency Range: $56,000-$95,000.
  • Compensation Transparency: The national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location. We also consider internal equity to help ensure fair and consistent pay practices across our teams.
  • Where applicable, this role may also be eligible for variable compensation (such as bonus or commission), equity, and benefits in accordance with local policies. Details will be shared during the hiring process. We are committed to equitable and transparent pay practices that align to market data, internal equity, and individual contribution.
Inclusion and Belonging

At Commerce, we believe that celebrating the unique histories, perspectives and abilities of every employee makes a difference for our company, our customers and our community.

We are an equal opportunity employer and the inclusive atmosphere we build together will make room for every person to contribute, grow and thrive.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible hiring experience for all candidates.

If you require accommodations or adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
