Job Description

Spectra Tech, Inc. is seeking Senior Design Engineers to support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team. These roles will provide design engineering support for projects at and around TA-55, with openings in Electrical Engineering and Civil/Structural Engineering disciplines.

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for assigned engineering activities supporting facility design, operations, maintenance, and project execution. This role applies broad and diversified engineering knowledge to perform complex engineering analyses, develop design packages, and support construction and project implementation efforts. The position may lead projects, supervise the work of others, and coordinate interdisciplinary activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering design, analysis, and evaluation activities within assigned discipline
  • Prepare and review complex engineering analyses and design documents
  • Support facility design, operation, maintenance, and modification projects
  • Develop and facilitate complete engineering design packages
  • Provide construction and project support, including field coordination
  • Lead projects and supervise or mentor other engineers, as required
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary engineering activities and system integration efforts
  • Apply expert knowledge of DOE/NNSA, DOD, and industry codes and standards
  • Utilize engineering technologies and tools to accomplish work efficiently
  • Identify and implement work process improvements to meet customer needs

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
  • Minimum 20 years of practical engineering experience performing responsibilities similar to those outlined
  • Senior-level understanding of engineering design deliverables and documentation
  • Expert knowledge of applicable DOE/NNSA and industry codes and standards, including but not limited to:
    • ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC
  • Extensive experience supporting design package development
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced engineering or technical degree (Master's or PhD)
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting or design mark-up software
  • Experience working in DOE or DOD nuclear facilities
  • Prior leadership experience on complex engineering projects

Security & Compliance Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
  • Participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP) is required
  • Position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities
