Hybrid 4 days onsite in Pittsburgh, PA

Our client seeks a Senior Software Engineer to build a secure, fault-tolerant Azure-based platform for high-volume data ingestion, ledger-style recordkeeping, and analytics for a small internal user base. The role is full stack with a primary focus on backend Java and Spring Boot services operating in AKS. The engineer will design distributed systems with strong consistency, zero data loss objectives, and regulatory-grade security, while contributing to an Angular front end as needed. The team values engineers who can meet aggressive timelines and leverage AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Responsibilities:
  • Design and build Java and Spring Boot microservices deployed to Azure Kubernetes Service.
  • Implement high-volume, fault-tolerant data processing pipelines with strong delivery guarantees.
  • Ensure persistent and reliable input delivery to prevent client resubmissions.
  • Build and maintain ledger-style recordkeeping services for confidential datasets.
  • Orchestrate API-based integrations with internal systems and partner organizations.
  • Design for multi-region Azure with defined RPO and RTO targets.
  • Implement caching and buffering using Azure Blob Storage initially, with a roadmap to Kafka and Redis.
  • Contribute to an Angular front end for internal users, including analytics and reporting views.
  • Design for geo-distributed resiliency, queuing, and persistence using Azure-native services.
  • Align systems with U.S. Government security standards, including familiarity with NIST 800-53 and Moderate/High control environments.
  • Support production deployments and operational readiness.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, and refactoring.
Experience Requirements:
  • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-native applications in Azure.
  • Experience with AKS and Kubernetes.
  • Background in distributed systems, fault tolerance, and high-volume data processing.
  • Knowledge of persistent messaging, queuing, and caching patterns.
  • Familiarity with Angular for full-stack contributions.
  • Experience handling confidential or regulated data.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in software development, with ability to articulate workflow impact.
  • Preferred: Kafka, Redis, Oracle databases, multi-region Azure architecture, analytics/reporting systems, government or high-security environments, and experience under tight timelines.
