The Sr. Application Engineer performs engineering and project management duties as assigned by the Director of Application Engineering.  Responsible for engineering, project management, customer relationship management, and code compliance. Mentors and trains less-senior team members.

Responsibilities
  • Works with the industrial engineering team, design analysis group, Sales, and customers to define system requirements and specifications 
  • Designs large, sometimes complex static, semi-automated, and automated material handling systems; specifies auxiliary equipment and systems 
  • Designs steel structures, including mezzanines, platforms, and ceiling hung steel 
  • Specifies auxiliary equipment/systems, such as compressed air systems, lighting, sprinkler systems, data networks, convenience outlets, and generates electrical requirements 
  • Works with clients to specify peripheral equipment such as workstations, forklifts, carton erectors, case sealers, and other material handling equipment; evaluates alternative technologies 
  • Write proposals, evaluates vendor offers, and estimates project costs, including working with other Wynright groups and vendors 
  • Supports Sales, including visiting job sites for customer meetings and surveys 
  • Creates plans and drawings, including drawings in AutoCAD 3D and working with sheet sets 
  • Ensures that designs are compliant with relevant codes, such as building, fire, CEMA, and OSHA 
  • Reviews the work of other department members, providing training and mentorship 
  • Identifies new technologies, equipment providers, fabricators, and subcontractors 
  • Project manages and/or engineers jobs, including building project schedules, ordering equipment, obtaining permits, contracting for installation, overseeing the installation work, testing and commissioning the system, communicating with customers, enforcing safety standards, tracking, forecasting, and reporting project financials; ensures system integration and effectiveness and makes sure they meet all requirements 
  • Helps enforce company and department project management and engineering standards
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of material handling industry experience
  • AutoCAD and 3D drawing preferred
  • Knowledge of material handling
  • Knowledge of project management and minimum of one engineering discipline
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and, after training, Wynright's Microsoft CRM and NiC conveyor estimating tool
  • Knowledge of financial accounting preferred
  • Requires hands-on skills, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and organizational skills to manage projects to successful completion
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as required, particularly for "go-live" event
