Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer information

What does a senior robotic simulation engineer do?

A Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing simulation models for robotic systems. They use advanced software tools to create virtual environments that test and validate robot behaviors before deployment in real-world settings. Their work helps to identify potential issues, improve system performance, and reduce development costs and risks. Additionally, they often collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulations with hardware and software development processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior robotic simulation engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer, you need advanced knowledge of robotics, simulation software, algorithm development, and a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in technical tools such as ROS, Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink, and experience with programming languages like C++ or Python is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate effectively and drive innovative solutions. These competencies are crucial for designing, testing, and refining robotic systems in complex environments to ensure reliability and performance.

What are some common challenges faced by senior robotic simulation engineers, and how are they typically addressed?

Senior Robotic Simulation Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring simulation accuracy, integrating real-world physics, and maintaining compatibility with both hardware and software updates. Addressing these requires continuous collaboration with cross-functional teams—including software developers, roboticists, and hardware engineers—to validate models and refine simulation parameters. Staying current with the latest simulation tools and regularly updating test environments also help mitigate potential discrepancies between simulated and real-world robot performance, ensuring reliable outcomes for deployment.

What is the difference between Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer vs Robotic Software Developer?

AspectSenior Robotic Simulation EngineerRobotic Software Developer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Robotics, Computer Science, or related fields; experience with simulation toolsBachelor's or higher in Computer Science or Software Engineering; programming skills
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, robotics companies, simulation platformsSoftware development firms, robotics companies, tech startups
Industry UsagePrimarily in robotics, automation, and simulation industriesBroadly in robotics, automation, and software development sectors

The main difference is that Senior Robotic Simulation Engineers focus on developing and testing virtual models of robots to optimize performance, while Robotic Software Developers primarily write and maintain software applications for robots. The simulation engineers work heavily with simulation tools and modeling, whereas software developers focus on coding and software architecture. Both roles require programming skills and industry knowledge, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

Reports to: Field Technical Leader - Industrial Automation & Robotics

About Analog DevicesAnalog Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADI) is a global semiconductor leader that bridges the physical and digital worlds to enable breakthroughs at the Intelligent Edge. ADI combines analog, digital, AI, and software technologies into solutions that help drive advancements in automation and robotics, mobility, energy and data centers, and healthcare, combat climate change, and reliably connect humans and the world. With revenue of more than $11 billion in FY25, ADI ensures today's innovators stay Ahead of What's Possible.Role Profile

Analog Devices is seeking a Field Robotics System Engineer to operate at the intersection of hands-on robotic system expertise, customer engagement, and platform enablement.

You will act as a system-level domain expert in the field, supporting customers from early architecture discussions through proof-of-concept (PoC), evaluation, and system support and integration, accelerating adoption of ADI technologies in real-world robotic systems.

This is a high-impact, customer-facing role focused on:

  • Scaling platform and solution engagements across robotics ecosystems (OEMs, disruptors, and partners), in collaboration with ADI BUs, Sales, Software, ADI Garage, Innovation Hubs, and AI teams.
  • Co-creating with customers and demonstrating value proposition
  • Providing domain expertise across robotic subsystems and platforms (motion, sensing, perception, control, power)
  • Accelerating customer decision cycles and drive design wins
This role supports priority segments including industrial robotics, humanoids, mobile robots, and service robotics, and is central to ADI's strategy to move up the value stack-from components to subsystems and platforms.Success in this role requires the ability to operate across complex ecosystems, influence technical and business stakeholders, and translate platform capabilities into working PoCs that accelerate customer adoption. At its core, this role executes ADI's platforms & solutions strategy in the field-driving near-term business impact while scaling repeatable system solutions and strengthening ADI position within key robotics ecosystems.Responsibilities
  • Build and integrate proof-of-concepts, demos, and reference systems that translate ADI platform and solution capabilities into compelling system-level demonstrations, clearly showcasing value for our customers
  • Work hands-on with robotic subsystems and platforms (motion, sensing, perception, control) aligned to real-world customer use cases
  • Support system bring-up, integration, and debugging across hardware, software, and control layers
  • Support ADI Catalyst (collaboration hubs) engagements and customer co-creation activities; including workshops and boot camps
  • Lead customer engagements on platforms and system solutions with robotics companies, disruptors, and ecosystem partners
  • Develop and apply deep expertise across key areas of technology in Robotics
  • Provide guidance on system architecture trade-offs (system partition, performance, cost, power, scalability)
  • Convert engagements into design wins and scalable opportunities across accounts
  • Represent ADI through customer engagements, technical forums, and industry events
  • Contribute to enablement of FAEs and sales teams in system-level engagements
