The primary purpose of this position will be to work with clinicians and leadership throughout the organization across the enterprise to conduct pro-active risk assessments, review and investigate occurrence reports, review and process medical dismissals, complete root cause analysis, patient safety improvement plans, identify and review adverse and sentinel events, identify patient safety concerns, potential liability concerns, and system breakdowns.
The Senior Risk Manager/Patient Safety Specialist will work to support the VP of Risk Management and be the point person for all Risk Managers/Patient Safety Specialist and frontโline staff. The Senior Risk Manager/Patient Safety Specialist is also responsible for assisting with patient and payor grievances and assisting to support the patient advocacy team. The Senior Risk Manager/Patient Safety Specialist will work to prevent harm by changing and managing all clinical policies, programs, processes to prevent future harm or error. Must have great communication skills and be able to have difficult conversations. Must have great writing skills and basic familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be organized and have great followโup.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides consultation to organizational leadership at an enterprise level, providers, and staff
- Event reporting system management
- Manage the system set up
- Provide system education
- Support system users
- Review and investigate organizational reports
- Review and investigate occurrence reports
- Review and investigate concerns brought to Risk Management by leadership and staff
- Identify trends and create action plan to minimize/eliminate the trend on a quarterly basis
- Conduct investigations related to: Near miss occurrences Patient safety concerns Potential liability concerns Harm events Sentinel events
- Conduct proactive patient safety/risk assessments
- Visits clinical sites to identify areas for improvement
- Implements action plans based on these findings and completes followโup
- Review, Manage and Process all clinical dismissals
- Provide education to organizational leadership, providers, and staff
- Potential Compensatory Events (PCE)
- Identify, investigate and mitigate PCEโs
- Write up PCEโs within 30 days of notification
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate and conduct root cause analysis under the Patient Safety Organization guidelines
- Complete Patient Safety Improvement Plan
- Manage and assist with patient complaints
- Investigate and respond to patient complaints
- Assist the patient experience department with patient complaints
- Other duties as assigned
License / Registration / Certification: Clinical experience required- Registered Nurse preferred or hospital experience
Level of Education: Bachelorโs degree or higher with clinical focus
Years of Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience required. Risk Management/Patient Safety experience preferred
The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $ 85K-128K with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
