ABOUT THIS POSITION

The position of Senior Character Artist at Digital Extremes is an opportunity to produce unique, complex and compelling characters. This position requires good design sense above all else. Having a keen design and aesthetic sense helps imbue characters with story and intrigue. A lot of freedom is given to the artist to incorporate own creative solutions as the character designs are rarely grounded in reality or contemporary references.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Realize the overall artistic vision of characters based on designs, concepts and descriptions
  • Design, model, and texture high quality 3D characters, paying close attention to anatomical
    proportions, physiology and overall geometry to work well with rigging and skin deformation
  • Work with Art Director and project Character Art Lead to combine ideas and methodologies of
    character production to create an efficient, streamlined pipeline
  • Collaborate with Art and Design leads to create technically sound, engaging and memorable
    characters
  • Multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and follow through on details
  • Support and Mentor other Artists who are less experienced and require more direction 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • 5+ years of experience creating characters for game development
  • Professional experience with today's standards of software relating to character creation for triple A games (i.e., Maya or Max, Zbrush, Substance painter and Designer etc.)
  • Good design sense! Expressive and gestural sculpting
  • Character creation based on own ideas and designs. This is the most quality that is required in order to be a good fit for the position.
  • Knowledge of skinning\rigging constraints and optimization
  • Ability to change art direction and iterate across projects with a variety of art styles
  • An exceptional understanding of human and creature anatomy with a keen eye towards form, structure, and silhouette and overall appeal
  • Ability to commit to and deliver finished assets with tight deadlines
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn new techniques and best practices
  • Have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in video games
  • Familiar with Warframe and Digital Extreme's development history
  • Previous experience working with a popular game engine i.e., Unreal or Unity
