Title: Senior MillwrightReports To: Maintenance Supervisor/Manager

Shift:  Afternoons 2:30pm to 11:00 pm

Job Purpose: The Millwright will play a crucial role in supporting the team within our highly technical fabrication facility. They will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced CNC machinery, PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, and various other highly automated systems. By applying their expertise, the Millwright will contribute to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, helping to drive the success of our fabrication processes. As a Sr Millwright you will coach, mentor and help develop others within the team.Key Responsibilities:Installation and Maintenance:
  • Install, assemble, and maintain advanced CNC machines, robotic systems, and PLC-driven equipment
  • Execute major overhauls, machine changeover, calibrations, and alignments, taking accountability for equipment performance
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance programs to ensure machinery and equipment sustain optimal reliability, and production targets
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, schematics, manuals, blueprints, and specifications to complete installations and repairs
Troubleshooting and Repair:
  • Independently diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues on complex machinery
  • Use diagnostic tools and test equipment to identify root causes, resolve problems and predict future breakdowns
  • Perform emergency repairs and ensure minimal production downtime
  • Calibrate machines, adjust settings, and align components to meet production specifications
Fabrication, Welding, and Machining Expertise:
  • Fabricate, weld (ARC, TIG, MIG), and machine precision components for repairs, upgrades, and emergency interventions
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment to deliver high-accuracy parts and assemblies
  • Provide guidance on advanced rigging, machining, and alignment practices across complex equipment
Safety, Compliance, and Process Ownership:
  • Champion a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to all health, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct comprehensive equipment inspections, proactively identify hazards, and ensure compliance with internal and external standards
  • Evaluate processes, recommend machine upgrades, and implement strategic maintenance practices to improve productivity and reliability
  • Participate in the development and updating of maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines
Continuous Improvement:
  • Lead cross-functional teams, collaborating with engineering, operations, and quality teams to prioritize maintenance, resolve complex issues, and optimize plant performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lean projects, and process enhancements to maximize uptime, efficiency and safety
Documentation, Planning, and Resource Management:
  • Maintain precise records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections
  • Assess job scope, required tools, and materials to plan work efficiently and minimize production impact
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers, ensuring specialized work or critical equipment needs are met promptly
  • Ordering and replenishment of work materials and components as necessary
  • Log all work completed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Track inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring critical parts are available when needed
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with the operations, engineering, and quality assurance teams to ensure machinery is aligned with production goals
  • Mentor, coach, and develop apprentices and junior technicians, building team capability and technical expertise
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with supervisors and production teams regarding equipment status and repairs
Leadership & Team Management:
  • Coach and mentor a team of millwrights/ Electricians, apprentices, and machine specialists.                                                                   
  • Collaborate with production or field teams to schedule maintenance with minimal operational impact.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED, College (Trade School), and Completion of Apprenticeship as a Millwright, and hold a Red Seal or Journeyman Millwright Certification (433A)
  • 5+ years’ post certification (or proven proficiency) working with complex, highly technical and automated machinery
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and skills to troubleshooting and repairs different types of equipment in a fast-paced automated manufacturing/industrial environment, including Amada CNC
  • Brakes, Amada Lasers, Trumpf 3030 Lasers, Prima Turret Punches, Prima SG’s, Prima Combi Lasers, Safan Brakes, Fanuc M-410i Robots, Fanuc R-30iB Rabots, Yaskawa Motoman YR-1 Robots, Kuka KR 10 Robots
  • Deep expertise in hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and machine component
Certifications:
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship
  • Ontario (433A) Millwright Certificate of Qualification or Inter-Provincial Red Seal License
  • Additional certifications in PLC programming, automation, robotics, or CNC maintenance an asset
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems for tracking work orders and maintenance activities
  • Demonstrated aptitude in interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment
  • Proficient in English, with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment with potential hazards such as noise, moving machinery, and industrial chemicals
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform tasks in confined spaces or elevated positions
  • Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet productions schedules and to support a three-shift operation
