What is a senior RF filter design engineer?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers are experienced professionals who specialize in designing, developing, and optimizing radio frequency (RF) filters used in electronic communication systems. They work with components that block or allow specific frequencies to ensure signal integrity in devices like smartphones, radios, and wireless networks. Their responsibilities include designing filter circuits, simulating performance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. Senior engineers also mentor junior staff and contribute to research and development of new filtering technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior RF filter design engineer?

To thrive as a Senior RF Filter Design Engineer, you need deep expertise in RF/microwave engineering, filter theory, and a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, ADS, or CST, as well as experience with PCB design and measurement equipment, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the development of high-performance filters that meet rigorous technical specifications and support seamless collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

What are some typical challenges faced by senior RF filter design engineers when working on multi-band wireless devices?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers often face the challenge of designing compact filters that operate efficiently across multiple frequency bands while maintaining low insertion loss and high selectivity. Integrating these filters into increasingly smaller and more complex wireless devices can lead to issues with electromagnetic interference and meeting stringent performance specifications. Collaboration with PCB designers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams is crucial to balance trade-offs in size, cost, and performance. Staying up-to-date with new materials and fabrication techniques also helps overcome these challenges and ensures optimal filter performance in real-world applications.

What is the difference between Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer vs RF Filter Design Engineer?

AspectSenior Rf Filter Design EngineerRF Filter Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RF designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, RF focus often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, R&D departments, collaborative teamsDesign labs, manufacturing facilities, project teams
Industry UsageTypically more experienced, involved in complex design and mentorshipEntry to mid-level roles focused on design tasks

The main difference between a Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer and an RF Filter Design Engineer lies in experience and responsibility. The senior role involves advanced design, mentorship, and project leadership, while the RF Filter Design Engineer typically focuses on executing design tasks under supervision. Both roles require similar credentials and work environments, but the senior position demands more expertise and leadership in RF filter development.

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril Cyber is focused on positioning Anduril as a lead provider of capabilities to enable offensive cyber missions. Cyber is a new business line at Anduril, and relies upon our fleet of autonomous vehicles, Lattice operating system, mesh networks, and other hardware products to engage in cyber operations at the edge. We design and build novel solutions to deploy cyber capabilities in unconventional or difficult to reach environments Anduril Cyber is hiring a Software Engineer focused on embedded and mission software integration. Strong candidates may lean more heavily toward embedded-platform or mission/backend work, but should be comfortable collaborating across adjacent layers that connect devices, operators, and data products.

ABOUT THE JOB

Anduril Cyber is hiring an RF Systems Engineer with broad technical range across RF architecture, systems engineering, verification, field integration, and cross-functional technical leadership. The role is aimed at a senior hands‑on engineer who can connect requirements, design trades, integration realities, and productization decisions across the full system.

  • Own end-to-end RF and system architecture trade studies across hardware, software, DSP, integration, and operational constraints.
  • Develop requirements, verification strategies, interface definitions, and engineering artifacts that keep complex programs technically coherent.
  • Lead technical reviews, customer‑facing discussions, and cross‑disciplinary design decisions with clear engineering judgment.
  • Drive integration problem‑solving across lab, field, and production‑oriented contexts while balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and schedule.
  • Use structured systems‑engineering methods to identify risks, close gaps, and improve confidence in the overall architecture.
  • Serve as a player‑coach technical leader who can move fluidly between deep technical details and broader program‑level tradeoffs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong experience in systems engineering for RF, digital, or mixed-signal systems with real ownership of architecture and integration outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skill in requirements development, interface definition, verification planning, and technical risk management.
  • Broad RF systems understanding, including receiver/transmitter chains, timing/synchronization concerns, and practical integration constraints.
  • Ability to lead technical trade studies across performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability, and schedule.
  • Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders in technical reviews, requirements discussions, or architecture briefings.
  • Hands‑on problem‑solving ability across software, hardware, networking, and field integration boundaries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make complex systems understandable to mixed audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with reverse engineering legacy systems or reconstructing architecture where documentation is incomplete.
  • Background with FPGA/SoC-based platforms, high‑speed digital systems, or multi-disciplinary hardware development programs.
  • Familiarity with qualification/compliance‑oriented verification environments and structured engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading small technical teams through design, integration, and field support phases.
  • Track record of productization-oriented decision making in addition to early‑phase system architecture work.
