Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer information

What are Senior RF Filter Design Engineers?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers are experienced professionals who specialize in designing, developing, and optimizing radio frequency (RF) filters used in electronic communication systems. They work with components that block or allow specific frequencies to ensure signal integrity in devices like smartphones, radios, and wireless networks. Their responsibilities include designing filter circuits, simulating performance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. Senior engineers also mentor junior staff and contribute to research and development of new filtering technologies.

What is the difference between Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer vs RF Filter Design Engineer?

AspectSenior Rf Filter Design EngineerRF Filter Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RF designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, RF focus often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, R&D departments, collaborative teamsDesign labs, manufacturing facilities, project teams
Industry UsageTypically more experienced, involved in complex design and mentorshipEntry to mid-level roles focused on design tasks

The main difference between a Senior Rf Filter Design Engineer and an RF Filter Design Engineer lies in experience and responsibility. The senior role involves advanced design, mentorship, and project leadership, while the RF Filter Design Engineer typically focuses on executing design tasks under supervision. Both roles require similar credentials and work environments, but the senior position demands more expertise and leadership in RF filter development.

What are some typical challenges faced by Senior RF Filter Design Engineers when working on multi-band wireless devices?

Senior RF Filter Design Engineers often face the challenge of designing compact filters that operate efficiently across multiple frequency bands while maintaining low insertion loss and high selectivity. Integrating these filters into increasingly smaller and more complex wireless devices can lead to issues with electromagnetic interference and meeting stringent performance specifications. Collaboration with PCB designers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams is crucial to balance trade-offs in size, cost, and performance. Staying up-to-date with new materials and fabrication techniques also helps overcome these challenges and ensures optimal filter performance in real-world applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior RF Filter Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior RF Filter Design Engineer, you need deep expertise in RF/microwave engineering, filter theory, and a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, ADS, or CST, as well as experience with PCB design and measurement equipment, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the development of high-performance filters that meet rigorous technical specifications and support seamless collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

Lead Analog & RF DesignerIntroduction

We are seeking an experienced Lead Analog & RF Designer to support the development of advanced electronic systems for military, aerospace, industrial, medical, and high reliability commercial applications. This role is responsible for leading the architecture, design, analysis, prototyping, and validation of complex analog and RF hardware designs from concept through production. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in analog and RF circuit design with strong project leadership, customer interaction, and mentoring capabilities. This position directly supports the growth and technical development of less experienced engineers while driving successful execution of high-performance hardware programs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of analog and RF circuits and subsystems for high-reliability electronic products.
  • Architect and design RF front ends, LNAs, mixers, filters, PLLs, oscillators, power amplifiers, high-speed analog signal chains, data converter interfaces, and power management circuits.
  • Develop schematics, simulations, PCB layout guidance, and design documentation.
  • Perform RF system analysis including gain budgeting, noise analysis, impedance matching, stability analysis, signal integrity, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
  • Support multilayer PCB and RF material stack-up selection.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead prototype bring-up, debugging, tuning, and validation testing.
  • Support environmental, qualification, and compliance testing.
  • Interface directly with customers for technical reviews, requirements development, and design trade studies.
  • Drive engineering best practices and mentor junior engineers.
  • Support transition from prototype to production.
RequirementsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in analog and RF electronic design.
  • Strong background in RF circuit design, analog electronics, mixed-signal systems, and high-speed PCB design.
  • Experience with RF frequencies ranging from MHz through multi-GHz applications.
  • Proficiency with RF simulation and design tools such as ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, LTspice, Altium Designer or equivalent.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators.
  • Strong understanding of PCB materials and controlled impedance design techniques.
  • Experience designing for harsh or regulated environments.
  • Ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple development activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, or medical electronics development.
  • Familiarity with hermetic packaging, LTCC, RF modules, or hybrid electronics.
  • Experience with phased arrays, SDRs, radar, communications, or microwave systems.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance and mitigation techniques.
  • Prior customer-facing technical leadership experience.
