Job description

Contract Electronics / RF Engineering & Test Specialist

Location: Calgary, Alberta
Employment Type: Contract
Initial Term: 4–6 months, with potential for extension
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Electronics/RF Engineering & Test Specialist to support the manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, qualification, and engineering development of a high precision scientific instrumentation product.

This is a hybrid engineering and hands-on technical role. While a significant portion of the work will involve physically assembling and testing equipment, the successful candidate will also be expected to take ownership of more technically challenging troubleshooting, engineering validation, RF/electrical characterization, and qualification activities.

The product is well established and supported by existing engineering documentation, but there are opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and close documentation gaps. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable moving between engineering documentation, laboratory test equipment, physical assembly, and problem solving.

This position would be well suited to an Electrical/Electronics Engineer, RF Engineer, Electronics Technologist, RF Technologist, or experienced electronics test professional who enjoys hands-on work.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing & System Assembly

  • Assemble and integrate complex electronic and electrical systems and subassemblies.
  • Install PCBs, electrical assemblies, connectors, wiring, and cable harnesses.
  • Perform cable preparation, crimping, soldering, and electrical rework as required.
  • Build engineering and production units according to released documentation.
  • Troubleshoot assembly and integration issues during manufacturing.
  • Identify discrepancies or deficiencies in engineering and manufacturing documentation.

Electronics & RF Testing

  • Develop and execute electrical and RF test procedures.
  • Perform board-level and system-level testing.
  • Use oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, multimeters, and other laboratory instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and RF performance issues.
  • Characterize circuits and assemblies and compare measured performance against design requirements.
  • Support root-cause investigations of failures encountered during manufacturing and testing.

Engineering Validation & Qualification

  • Support design verification testing (DVT) of new and modified assemblies.
  • Assist with qualification of engineering changes prior to production release.
  • Prepare equipment, fixtures, cables, documentation, and test plans for external EMC/emissions testing.
  • Participate in emissions testing and troubleshoot issues identified during qualification.
  • Generate clear test records and technical reports.
  • Work with engineering personnel to identify and resolve design or manufacturing issues.

Manufacturing Process Development
