Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time RF Design Engineer - Aviation at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing for moderately complex RF and antenna products.
Essential Functions
  • Design/develop moderately complex antennas (ex. single and dual band) for products derived primarily from existing products including simulations, prototyping and evaluation
  • Proficiently use one of the antenna simulation software (ex. XFDTD, CST, HFSS etc.)
  • Familiar with use of lab bench (ex. multimeters, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, soldering iron, etc.)
  • Capable of running antenna chamber (passive and active measurements)
  • Knowledgeable of Garmin's internal/external radiated specifications and corresponding limits and guidelines from regulatory and standard bodies (ex. FCC, CTIA, 3gPP etc.)
  • Offer suggestions for antenna manufacturing process improvements
  • Review schematic/PCB layout for antenna contacts and corresponding matching circuits
  • Find root cause and suggest corrective action for given antenna problems
  • Work with the factory team to understand design impacts on manufacturability
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on antenna and electrical engineering design aspects
  • Use good communication skills with Design team, mechanical engineers, leadership and all responsible parties
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion and participate in recruiting activities as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 2 years industry experience in antenna design for consumer electronics OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on antennas and electromagnetics or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to develop moderately complex antenna designs including simulations, prototyping and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability with electrical engineering tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability
