Job description

Senior Retail Portfolio Accountant

Billingsley Property Services II, Inc. Dallas, Texas, United States

About this position

Founded in 1978 by Lucy and Henry Billingsley, the organization expertly builds, owns, and manages its properties, ensuring long-term client, resident, and partner return. Specializing in master-planned developments and principles of new urbanism, each Billingsley property signifies technology, convenience, and a vast array of amenities aimed to attract and retain tenants, residents, visitors, and employees. These amenities include art, sculpture, parks, trails, and outdoor public spaces. With over 5,000 acres in DFW, Billingsley has built 5 million SF of Commercial space, 550,000 SF of Retail, 9 million SF of Industrial, and over 10,000 units of Multiโ€‘Family.

OSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Commercial Portfolio Accountant owns fullโ€‘cycle accounting for an assigned group of Billingsley's commercial assets โ€” office, industrial, and retail. This is a handsโ€‘on role: preparing and reviewing financial statements, reconciling CAM and operating expense recoveries, supporting budgets and reforecasts, and making sure every number that reaches ownership or a lender is right the first time. The properties in this portfolio are held longโ€‘term and often financed with institutional debt, so the accuracy and defensibility of this reporting carries real weight.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN
  • Fullโ€‘cycle accounting for an assigned commercial portfolio, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthโ€‘end close.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statement packages โ€” income statement, balance sheet, general ledger, and cash flow โ€” for ownership review.
  • CAM and operating expense reconciliations, including annual trueโ€‘ups and tenant billing accuracy.
  • Lease abstraction and interpretation to ensure correct revenue recognition, including straightโ€‘line rent, escalations, and percentage rent where applicable.
  • Partnering with property management on annual operating budgets and periodic reforecasts.
  • Variance analysis comparing actual performance to budget, with clear explanations for ownership and lenders.
  • Supporting yearโ€‘end audits, tax return preparation, and lender/debt compliance reporting.
  • Maintaining accurate records for any joint venture or partnershipโ€‘held assets in the portfolio, including distribution calculations.
  • Identifying and recommending improvements to accounting processes and controls as the commercial portfolio grows.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in commercial real estate and property accounting, with direct exposure to CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and propertyโ€‘level financial reporting.
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP as applied to real estate.
  • Experience with a real estate accounting platform (Yardi, MRI, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • A track record of hitting close deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Comfort working directly with property management, ownership, auditors, and lenders โ€” this role isn't backโ€‘office only.
  • CPA is a plus, not a requirement.
WHY THIS ROLE

Billingsley is familyโ€‘founded and still ownerโ€‘operated, which means the accountant on this portfolio has a direct line to the people who actually own the buildings โ€” not a layer of asset managers standing between the numbers and the decisionโ€‘makers. The commercial portfolio is growing, and this role has room to grow with it.
