Senior Staff Accountant
EPEX Home Performance / Solar Works Energy • Albuquerque, NM • Full-Time • On-Site • $60,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience
Position Summary
EPEX Home Performance / Solar Works Energy is seeking an experienced, highly organized Senior Staff Accountant to join our Albuquerque accounting team.
We are a growing, multi-entity construction and home-improvement company operating across solar, roofing, windows, electrical, stucco, and related services.
This is a hands-on accounting role reporting to the Controller. The Senior Staff Accountant will take ownership of account reconciliations, journal entries, AR/AP, customer billing, job costing, month-end close support, and other general accounting responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, identify when something does not look right, research discrepancies, and consistently produce accurate, complete, review-ready work.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform bank, credit-card, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Review general-ledger activity for errors and incorrect classifications.
  • Complete assigned month-end close responsibilities on schedule.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Support multi-entity and intercompany accounting.
  • Assist with revenue recognition and deferred-revenue accounting.

Job Costing & Project Accounting
  • Maintain accurate project-level cost records.
  • Ensure labor, materials, subcontractors, commissions, permits, rework, and other direct costs are assigned correctly.
  • Identify missing, duplicate, or miscoded project costs.
  • Support project and trade-level gross-profit reporting.
  • Work with Project Managers and the Controller to research cost discrepancies.
  • Help improve the accuracy of job-cost reporting.

Accounts Receivable & Billing
  • Prepare and review customer invoices.
  • Maintain accurate customer balances and record customer payments.
  • Assist with collections and outstanding receivables.
  • Identify unbilled completed work and funding delays.
  • Research billing discrepancies and coordinate with internal teams as needed.

Accounts Payable & Vendors
  • Review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Confirm required approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Process approved payments and reconcile vendor statements.
  • Research duplicate invoices, credits, refunds, and discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate vendor records.

Accounting Team Support
  • Serve as an experienced accounting resource to Staff Accountants and junior accounting personnel.
  • Help answer accounting questions and review assigned work.
  • Support training on reconciliations, coding, AR/AP, journal entries, and job costing.
  • Help improve accounting procedures and reduce recurring errors.

What Success Looks Like
The books are current. Reconciliations are complete. Customer billing happens on time. Vendor transactions are accurate. Project costs are coded correctly. Accounting discrepancies are researched and resolved before they become month-end problems.
The Controller receives accurate, organized, review-ready work and can rely on the Senior Staff Accountant to take ownership of important day-to-day accounting responsibilities.
When you say something is complete, it should be complete, accurate, reconciled, documented, and ready for review.
