A Brief Overview 

The Senior Graphic Designer is a strategic creative leader responsible for elevating and evolving the Burns & McDonnell brand across all marketing channels. This role combines exceptional visual design skills with creative thinking, audience insight and business acumen to develop compelling brand experiences that differentiate the company in the marketplace.

The ideal candidate pushes creative boundaries, champions innovative design approaches and transforms complex ideas into bold, engaging visual communications. Collaborating closely with other marketing team members, this individual will help shape integrated campaigns, brand initiatives and thought leadership programs that drive awareness, engagement and business growth. 

What you will do

  • Lead the creative development of integrated marketing campaigns that support brand awareness, thought leadership, recruiting and business growth objectives.
  • Translate complex technical, business and industry concepts into compelling visual stories and experiences.
  • Develop bold, innovative creative concepts that elevate the Burns & McDonnell brand and create meaningful differentiation in the marketplace.
  • Serve as a brand steward while continuously evolving and modernizing the visual identity across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Partner with marketing business partners, writers, digital teams and business leaders to develop creative solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Apply design thinking methodologies to uncover audience needs, solve communication challenges and improve marketing effectiveness.
  • Create and steward high-impact visual assets across digital, social media, web, video, presentations, experiential marketing, events and print.
  • Leverage audience insights, performance analytics and market trends to inform creative decisions and optimize campaign effectiveness.
  • Present creative concepts and strategic rationale to stakeholders, gaining alignment and building enthusiasm around innovative ideas.
  • Stay at the forefront of design trends, emerging technologies and AI-enabled creative tools, identifying opportunities to advance the company's marketing capabilities.
  • Mentor and inspire fellow designers while fostering a culture of creativity, experimentation and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, external agencies and vendors to ensure creative excellence and brand consistency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, fine arts or related field and 8 years of professional design experience.
  • Demonstrated portfolio showcasing exceptional creative thinking, brand development, campaign design and visual storytelling, preferred.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Advanced PowerPoint presentation design skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing strategy, audience engagement and integrated campaign development, preferred.
  • Experience designing across multiple channels, including digital, social, web, presentations, video and print, preferred.
  • Problem solving-skills to transform complex ideas to graphic representations.
  • Understanding of good layout principles.
  • Expert conceptualization skills for alternative printing, production, and packaging techniques.
  • Ability to use data, analytics and audience insights to inform creative decisions and measure effectiveness, preferred.
  • Experience applying design thinking and human-centered design principles to marketing and communication challenges, preferred.
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills with the ability to develop original, breakthrough creative ideas.
  • Knowledge of motion graphics, video, interactive design or emerging digital experiences preferred.
  • Utilize emerging technology with great proficiency.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong visual proofreading and error-checking skills.
