Job description

I&C Engineer IV

Location: (Remote) About the Role

System One is seeking an experienced I&C Engineer IV to support the design and development of advanced nuclear reactor systems. This remote opportunity focuses on digital Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering, including system design, engineering analyses, licensing support, and multidisciplinary coordination throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review engineering deliverables including one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, system requirements, design documents, engineering calculations, technical reports, hazard analyses, and ITAAC documentation.
  • Design safety-related and non-safety-related digital I&C systems.
  • Develop system and component requirements while coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Perform engineering studies, calculations, and technical evaluations.
  • Lead complex engineering assignments from concept through implementation.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and technical execution.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors supporting I&C system development.
  • Serve as a technical interface with regulatory agencies, supporting audits, licensing activities, and Requests for Additional Information (RAIs).
  • Support testing, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with NRC regulations and applicable industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years of commercial nuclear experience in design or systems engineering.
  • Strong experience designing digital Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) systems.
  • Knowledge of NRC regulations and commercial nuclear design requirements.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, specifications, design documents, and technical reports.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810 requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nuclear safety protection systems, neutron monitoring systems, or related commercial nuclear technologies.
  • Knowledge of reactor physics, source term analysis, shielding analysis, criticality concepts, dose analysis, and PWR systems.
  • Experience supporting NRC licensing activities.
  • Familiarity with IEEE standards including 497, 603, 308, 379, 384, 323, 344, and 1050.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced degree is a plus.
