Job description

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced automation equipment and assembly lines as we scale our hardware product portfolio. In this role, you will drive cross-functional initiatives to bring innovative hardware solutions from concept through to full-scale production. Collaborating closely with controls, mechanical and electrical design teams, you will implement robust machine and process architecture.  

This role presents a unique opportunity to influence product design from its earliest stages. It is a rare and valuable learning experience for manufacturing engineers to be embedded so deeply in both product and manufacturing development. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for X (DFx), Assembly, Quality, Reliability 
  • Lead and implement robust manufacturing processes, including process sequencing, critical parameter development, and assembly recipes 
  • Drive quality, repeatability, and throughput in both prototype and production environments. 
  • Collaborate closely with Design Engineering, NPI, Quality, and Production teams throughout the product lifecycle 
  • Act as a technical lead to resolve quality and functional issues in production and with contract manufacturers. 
  • Develop data-driven action plans and root cause analyses to ensure timely resolution and continuous improvement. 
  • Design and validation of novel prototype tooling and assembly equipment with 3rd third-party equipment builder. 
  • Collaborate with the equipment design engineer for in-house equipment development. 
  • Oversee internal and external development of equipment and processes for new product introduction and scale-up. 
  • Support the ramp-up of production lines, resolving technical issues, optimizing process performance, and ensuring lines meet takt time, yield, and labor efficiency targets. 
  • Perform line balancing and capacity planning studies to support efficient line layout, equipment utilization, and throughput targets as production scales. 
  • Maintain comprehensive process documentation, participate in Engineering Change Management 
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts through data collection, analysis, and feedback loops 
  • Mentor technicians and production associates as needed 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or related field) 
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with background in DFM, process development, and high-mix or low-to-high-volume production 
  • Hands-on experience in any of the following manufacturing processes: injection molding, die casting, machining, assembly automation, potting, wilding, soldering, laser, adhesion. 
  • Experience in participating in large-scale capital equipment design projects. From Request from quotation to FAT, SAT or SOP. 
  • Background in concept-to-production equipment development. 
  • Experience in data collection and analysis for process development or applicable process engineering expertise 
  • Willing to lead cross-functional projects and vendor engagements 
  • Experience in problem-solving and a data-driven mindset 
  • Familiarity with tools such as OEE, CP, CPK, PFMEA, DOE, root cause analysis, and SPC 
  • Written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience working in Agile development environments, including task management and sprint planning using Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira. 
  • Ability to travel up to 20% - 25% including internationally 

Bonus Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in CAD software (3D EXPERIENCE (3DX), CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, Creo etc.) for designing mechanical assemblies. 
  • Experience with DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) methodologies. 
  • GD&T and its impact on manufacturability. 
  • Knowledge of motion control, pneumatics, hydraulics, and sensors. 
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic schematics.  
  • Power Electronics Assembly experience is highly valued from energy, automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, or consumer electronics manufacturing. 
  • Experience in Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) improvements.
