Job description

Senior Safety & Reliability Engineer (Direct Placement for Client) Primary Function:

As a Safety & Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for safety processes, methodologies and best practices, assessing and defining product architecture, examining failure modes and probabilities to ensure our products meet their requirements. You'll work within a fast-paced, creative engineering environment, acting as an individual contributor within a multi-disciplined team to ensure our products are safe, robust, and reliable. This is an opportunity to directly impact the performance and success of cuttingโ€‘edge aerospace and defense products.

Please note the typical hiring range is $112,200 - $178,250 annually. Job offers within the range are based on significant job qualifications and pay equity.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Safety and Reliability Analysis: Develop and analyze critical reports, including Reliability Analyses, Fault Trees, Common Cause Analyses, and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with design, components, and quality engineering teams to identify requirements, pinpoint non-conformances, and drive corrective actions.
  • Design & Compliance: Manage aircraft safety requirements throughout the product lifecycle using both topโ€‘down and bottomโ€‘up methodologies. Participate in design reviews to ensure compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: Facilitate risk assessments, including safety and cybersecurity, for new products and problem reports, and generate comprehensive reports.
  • Technical Expertise: Utilize your expertise in industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, DO-178, DO-254) and reliability testing methods (HALT, HASS, ESS) to guide development.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS) and contribute to field reliability tracking efforts.
  • Customer Communication: Maintain strong communication with customer counterparts and program managers throughout the development process.
  • Performs special projects/tasks as assigned.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Aerospace Engineering discipline.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Safety & Reliability Engineering.
  • Experience with Safety & Reliability software such as PTC Windchill/Windchill Risk & Reliability.
  • Familiarity with derating and maintenance/packaging design analysis.
  • Expertise in aerospace equipment certification processes.
  • Proficiency with fault tree analysis tools (e.g., CAFTA Fault Tree or Relex Fault Tree).
  • Working knowledge of communication protocols.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical models.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards: MIL-HDBK-217, MIL-HDBK-472, DO-160.
  • Experience with STPA or CAST.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering and requirements capture software (e.g., DOORs).
  • Experience with softwareโ€‘based systems and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) is a plus.
  • Experience with Jira, ADO, or other program management tools is a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of cyber security protocols like DO-326 is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent use of personal computers, database and digital platforms, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and computer printers.
  • Frequently uses hands, fingers, and arms to reach, handle, touch or feel equipment, materials, and computer.
  • The person in this position needs to frequently move inside the office.
  • This position is onsite.
