Position Summary
The Coder will be responsible for accurately coding medical records for services rendered at our ENT or Allergy practice. This role ensures proper coding to maximize reimbursement and maintain compliance with federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical coding guidelines and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and administrative staff.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze patient medical records to assign accurate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as payer-specific guidelines.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify ambiguous documentation and ensure accurate code assignment.
  • Assist in resolving coding-related billing issues and denials.
  • Participate in coding audits and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Professional coding certification such as CPC or CCS.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional medical coding experience.
  • Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, NCCI edits, MUEs, and Medicare coding requirements.
  • Knowledge of professional fee coding and physician practice billing.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to interpret complex medical records and determine appropriate code assignment.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to research and interpret payer and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting established productivity and accuracy standards.
  • Primarily computer-based work in remote environment.
  • Ability to remain focused for extended periods while reviewing electronic medical records.
  • Frequent use of computer systems, coding resources, and payer portals.
  • Required to meet established productivity and turnaround-time expectations.
  • Required to meet established quality standards.
  • Experience coding for ENT (clinic and surgery) and allergy specialties preferred.
  • Experience with ModMed preferred.
