Senior R Shiny Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior R Shiny Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior R Shiny Developer, you need advanced proficiency in R programming, strong experience in building interactive Shiny applications, and a solid background in data analysis or statistics, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, deployment tools (such as Docker or Shiny Server), and knowledge of front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure the delivery of robust, user-friendly data applications that meet complex business needs and facilitate data-driven decision-making.

How does a Senior R Shiny Developer typically collaborate with data scientists and business stakeholders on projects?

A Senior R Shiny Developer often acts as a bridge between data scientists, who provide complex analyses and models, and business stakeholders, who need actionable insights. They work closely with data scientists to understand requirements, interpret datasets, and ensure effective integration of analytical results into interactive Shiny applications. Collaboration with stakeholders involves gathering feedback, translating business needs into technical features, and iteratively refining dashboards or tools to improve usability and value. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to manage expectations while delivering functional, scalable solutions.

What are Senior R Shiny Developers?

Senior R Shiny Developers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and maintain interactive web applications using R and the Shiny framework. They are responsible for creating user-friendly dashboards, data visualizations, and analytical tools, often for data-driven organizations. In addition to strong R programming skills, they typically have expertise in front-end technologies, data management, and deploying Shiny applications to production environments. Senior developers often mentor junior team members and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver robust and scalable solutions.

What is the difference between Senior R Shiny Developer vs Data Scientist?

AspectSenior R Shiny DeveloperData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields; experience with R and ShinyBachelor's or higher in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields; proficiency in R, Python, and statistical modeling
Work EnvironmentDevelops interactive dashboards and web apps for data visualization in tech, finance, healthcareAnalyzes data, builds predictive models, and interprets results across various industries
Employer & Industry UsageTech companies, consulting firms, healthcare, financeResearch institutions, tech firms, finance, healthcare, academia

While both roles require strong R skills and data understanding, Senior R Shiny Developers focus on creating interactive web applications, whereas Data Scientists analyze data and develop models. The roles often overlap in data-driven environments but differ in primary responsibilities.

Our engineers partner closely not only with our customers, but also with peers across sales, manufacturing, and assembly.

We offer rewarding, challenging opportunities throughout the world, across multiple packaging segments. If you’re excited by how machines work and want to make them better, we want to talk to you.

Do we have your attention? Keep reading.

Our Techniblend team is excited to add a Senior Controls Engineer to our growing team! As our Senior Controls Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems to automate machinery and processes within our organization. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements, develop control strategies, and ensure seamless integration of control systems with existing infrastructure. To be successful, you'll need a strong technical expertise in control systems, PLC programming, HMI development, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Additionally, you'll be expected to mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and stay abreast of emerging technologies in the field.

Are you passionate about this work?

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for automated machinery and industrial processes.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand requirements and develop control strategies to meet project objectives.
  • Program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control devices using industry-standard programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
  • Conduct testing and commissioning of control systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to control systems, both independently and in collaboration with other engineering teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives related to control systems and automation processes.
  • Stay updated on advancements in control system technologies, industry standards, and best practices, and assess their applicability to existing projects.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors as needed for the procurement and integration of control system components.
  • Adhere to relevant regulatory standards and safety protocols in all aspects of control system design and implementation.
