Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and independent Senior HVAC Design Engineer / Project Lead to drive the design and implementation of complex Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects. In this role, you will work both autonomously and in close partnership with Project Managers to take concepts from initial scope to execution.

The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of concurrent projects ranging from tens of thousands of dollars up to $5 million. You will serve as the primary technical liaison, aligning front-line facilities operations with executive leadership to deliver robust, efficient, and modern building automation and climate control solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Scoping & Design: Direct the project scoping process; develop preliminary engineering designs, schedules, cost estimates, and qualitative/quantitative risk assessments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers to submit and evaluate contractor bid packages, and collaborate with Facilities leadership and front-line staff to secure design alignment and approval.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Chair regular update meetings for leadership regarding project scope, budgets, engineering costs, and schedules.
  • Technical Oversight: Act as the primary interface to resolve engineering design problems, and ensure all design schedules and engineering costs remain on target.
  • System Optimization & Troubleshooting: Support Facilities Operations in troubleshooting HVAC system and Building Automation System (BAS) controls issues for existing portfolio assets.
  • Standards Governance: Maintain, review, and continuously update company HVAC and Building Automation System (BAS) engineering standards.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Experience: 10+ years of job-relevant experience in HVAC and controls design, engineering, and application.
    • Project Management: Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple high-visibility projects under shifting priorities.
    • Communication: Exceptional consulting, influencing, and meeting-facilitation skills, with a track record of building cross-functional relationships.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
    • Strong working knowledge of BAS control system design (specifically Niagara Tridium BAS).
    • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM), Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and/or Revit.
    • PMI/PMP (Project Management Institute) certification.
