Senior Aerospace Safety Investigator

The Safety, Security & Airworthiness organization is seeking an Aerospace Safety Investigator to join the Product Safety & Investigations team in Seal Beach, CA or Everet, WA.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior (Level 4 or Level 5) Aerospace Safety Investigator

Part of the Chief Aerospace Safety Office, the Product Safety & Investigations (PS&I) team is chartered to ensure continuous proactive vigilance to safety in our airplane products and to provide worldwide investigative support. This position is responsible for leadership in multi-discipline company-wide airplane accident and incident investigations and coordination with government investigative agencies. A successful candidate must have the ability to lead cross-functional teams in understanding complex technical issues, to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and to represent the Boeing company to worldwide government investigative authorities.

Primary responsibilities
  • Functions as a single point-of-contact and represents the company to worldwide investigative authorities. Assists with government accident investigations and incidents involving company products and services.
  • Provides requests for information, laboratory analyses and simulation work for investigation authorities. Supports and coordinates internal company resources including engineering and technical functions, simulation facilities and analysts, and laboratories required for investigations.
  • Collects and shares lessons learned resulting from investigations and ensures appropriate company response. Takes part in company safety processes and initiatives.
  • Supports training for internal and external investigation participants.
  • Assists with customer required safety programs and investigations of safety of flight incidents.
  • Participates in the discussion of legal cases and claims with in-house and outside counsel. Researches, acquires and provides specific facts and data for litigation. May participate in the preparations, review and proofing of legal documents. May be called upon to testify in legal proceedings.
  • Assists with the preparation, interpretation and dissemination of accident investigation related materials. Assists with validating company communications related to accident investigations. Assists with the preparation of company formal inputs and responses to draft accident investigation reports.
  • Participates in field investigations and leads company teams at airplane accident site. Supports compliance with protocols, logistics and safety requirements. Advises the company team members regarding tasks and safety requirements to be performed.
  • Candidate work in one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:
    • Air Safety Investigations
    • Continued Operational Safety
    • Functional Engineering Discipline (e.g., Propulsion, Structures, Systems, Flight Operations, etc.)
    • Airline Operations Support Processes
    • Safety Management Systems
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)
  • Level 4: 9+ years of experience in a technical discipline such as engineering, math, or technology
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Experience leading technical teams
  • Experience working within aviation regulatory environments
  • Experience working with safety analyses such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), etc.
  • Capable of traveling up to 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience)
  • Level 5: 14+ years of experience in a technical discipline such as engineering, math, or technology
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing the investigative process
