Job description

Senior Connectivity Engineer

Location: Aiken, SC (Onsite)

Compensation: $55-$75/hour, depending on experience

Mission-critical infrastructure experience is highly preferred. Candidates from data centers, hyperscale environments, colocation facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, or similarly complex operational environments are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Connectivity Engineer to support large-scale data center infrastructure projects in Aiken, South Carolina. This is a highly visible opportunity for a Senior-level professional who combines strong project management expertise with a solid understanding of connectivity infrastructure, construction execution, and vendor management within mission-critical environments.

This position will support a combination of new-build data center construction, retrofit projects, technical modifications (Tech Mods), and rapid deployment initiatives, with new-build experience being the highest priority. Candidates who have successfully led infrastructure projects from planning through closeout and understand the complexities of working within active, mission-critical facilities will be highly regarded.

This is a management-oriented Connectivity Engineer role with approximately a 60% project/program management and 40% technical oversight focus. While project leadership, budgeting, scheduling, contractor management, and stakeholder engagement are critical components of the position, candidates must also possess enough technical depth to effectively oversee connectivity deployments, review installations, challenge vendors when necessary, and support technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in both worlds: driving project execution while maintaining credibility with engineers, contractors, and installation partners.

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates will have experience in:

  • Mission-critical infrastructure environments
  • New-build data center construction
  • Data center retrofits and modernization projects
  • Structured cabling and connectivity deployments
  • Network infrastructure implementation projects
  • Vendor and contractor management
  • Budget ownership and forecasting
  • Project scheduling and controls
  • Quality assurance and quality control processes
  • Cross-functional stakeholder leadership
  • Owner's Representative (Owner's Rep) environments

Candidates should be capable of discussing connectivity infrastructure at a technical level while also leading project teams, managing schedules, mitigating risks, and ensuring successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, milestones, deliverables, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead connectivity infrastructure projects from planning through execution and project closeout.
  • Coordinate activities between construction teams, engineering groups, vendors, contractors, logistics teams, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively communicate status, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and project controls efforts.
  • Establish contractor milestones and hold installation partners accountable to schedule and quality expectations.
  • Manage project risks, escalations, issue resolution, and change orders.
  • Conduct field inspections and validate installation quality, workmanship, code compliance, and build accuracy.
  • Review structured cabling installations and connectivity infrastructure deployments.
  • Participate in design reviews, bill of materials (BOM) reviews, constructability reviews, and as-built documentation validation.
  • Identify and resolve scope gaps, design conflicts, and field execution challenges.
  • Build strong working relationships with contractors, vendors, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Support a safety-first culture while ensuring compliance with all site safety requirements and industry best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience leading projects within construction, infrastructure, telecommunications, or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience engaging, influencing, and guiding stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience providing solutions to construction-related challenges.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and vendor management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • New-build data center construction experience.
  • Data center development or construction management experience.
  • Mission-critical infrastructure project experience.
  • Owner's Representative (Owner's Rep) experience.
  • Experience managing IT or IP network deployment projects.
  • Experience leading structured cabling infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience reviewing installations against design documents and specifications.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs.
  • Fiber optic testing and troubleshooting experience.
  • Primavera P6 experience.
  • Experience supporting retrofit, modernization, and technical modification projects.
Nice to Have
  • Outside Plant (OSP) deployment experience.
  • OTDR and OLTS testing experience.

OSP experience is beneficial but is not the primary focus of this role. Most project work will be focused on Inside Plant (ISP) infrastructure.

Ideal Backgrounds

Candidates may come from roles such as:

  • Senior Connectivity Engineer
  • Data Center Infrastructure Project Manager
  • Data Center Construction Manager
  • Mission-Critical Construction Manager
  • Infrastructure Program Manager
  • Network Deployment Manager
  • Telecommunications Infrastructure Manager
  • Structured Cabling Project Manager
  • Owner's Representative
  • Data Center Program Manager
  • Fiber Program Manager
  • Infrastructure Delivery Manager

This opportunity offers the chance to play a key role in delivering complex data center infrastructure projects while partnering with industry-leading construction, engineering, and operations teams. Candidates with strong project management experience, proven success on new-build projects, mission-critical infrastructure expertise, and the ability to influence vendors and contractors will be well-positioned for success.
