What is a senior programmer?

Senior Programmers are experienced software developers who take on advanced coding tasks and often provide technical leadership within their teams. They are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems, as well as mentoring junior developers. Senior Programmers typically have strong problem-solving skills, deep knowledge of programming languages, and experience with software architecture. They may also be involved in code reviews, setting best practices, and collaborating with other departments to deliver high-quality software solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior programmer?

To thrive as a Senior Programmer, you need advanced proficiency in programming languages, solid software development experience, and often a relevant degree or equivalent expertise. Familiarity with frameworks, version control systems like Git, and agile development tools is typically required, and certifications in cloud platforms or specific technologies can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills enable effective collaboration and mentorship within development teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering robust, scalable solutions and driving technical excellence in complex projects.

Senior Programmers often play a key mentorship role by guiding junior developers through code reviews, pair programming, and sharing best practices. They provide technical leadership and help troubleshoot complex issues, ensuring code quality and knowledge transfer across the team. This mentorship not only fosters professional growth for junior members but also contributes to stronger team cohesion and faster problem-solving, ultimately boosting overall productivity and project success.

Company Overview:
Bose Professional and Fulcrum Acoustic create professional audio solutions for some of the world's most demanding commercial and performance environments. Together, our product portfolios span loudspeakers, amplifiers, signal processing, controls, software, and accessories. Our teams can work across both Bose Professional and Fulcrum Acoustic technologies, creating opportunities to contribute to a broad range of products, platforms, and audio applications. As we continue to expand our team, we are seeking a Senior Acoustics Engineer to join us on our journey.
We have organized ourselves culturally around a set of shared values. We are a team first, which means we are collaborative and support each other toward our common goals. We start everything from the outside in, starting with the customer and solving from there. We value trust, so we are a company of people who are open and direct, avoid politics, and who do what it takes to deliver on our commitments. And as we work together, we are empathetic, courteous, and fair, because we respect each other. Finally, we believe that creativity and innovation belong in all parts of the company in order to drive excellence in everything we do.

You will help shape the technical direction for loudspeaker-focused R&D, including the workflows and tools used to go from early concepts to parametric models, to rapid prototyping and testing/evaluation, to optimization and tuning for final productization. This is an amazing opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed innovator David Gunness and a world-class team on industry-leading audio products.
If you thrive on finding creative solutions to complex problems, are curious and willing to challenge the status quo, this may be the perfect next step for your career.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with software engineers on custom tools for designing & modeling loudspeaker systems; optimize acoustic measurement, data analysis, and design verification workflows & processes.
  • Design loudspeaker enclosures, waveguides and novel acoustical elements.
  • Be a catalyst for innovation and new IP generation.
  • Accelerate our innovation process, leverage our extensive in-house experience/knowledge base and IP, conduct research and explore emerging technology trends.
  • Create technical proposals outlining potential solutions and approaches that are aligned with our strategic product vision and business goals.
  • Collaborate on architecture and design documents.
  • Create product prototypes leveraging our cross-functional engineering teams, outside engineering support services and specialized consultants.
  • Be a champion for innovation and creativity, while staying focused on practical solutions that meet cost, schedule, and quality targets.
  • Support Company objectives by completing additional tasks as needed

Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or similar
  • 4+ years of hands-on professional acoustic engineering/research experience
  • Solid understanding of loudspeakers, waveguides, and transducers
  • Experience using and interpreting results from acoustic simulation & design software tools.
Qualifications - Nice to Have:
  • Experience using Klippel Near-Field Scanners
  • Experience developing acoustic test procedures and test rigs
  • Crossover design and optimization experience
  • Exposure to or experience with COMSOL modeling; desire to further expand in this area.
