Job description

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate-level position responsible for participating in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to application systems analysis, design, development, and programming activities.

This role requires strong experience in Full Stack Java development, including modern web application frameworks, microservices architecture, and MongoDB database development. Exposure to Python and Generative AI technologies is highly desirable to support innovation, automation, and AI-driven business solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, application development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs to meet specific business needs.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Full Stack Java applications utilizing Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and modern front-end technologies such as Angular or React.
  • Develop and support data solutions leveraging MongoDB, including schema design, query optimization, data integration, and performance tuning.
  • Monitor and control all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
  • Utilize in-depth application development expertise to analyze complex technical and business problems, evaluate processes, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Recommend and develop security measures and conduct post-implementation reviews to ensure successful system functionality, stability, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with business users, architects, and technology teams to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to API development, system integrations, and cloud-native application architectures.
  • Support modernization initiatives and evaluate the use of emerging technologies, including Python-based automation and Generative AI capabilities, where appropriate.
  • Ensure development standards, coding best practices, and operational procedures are followed.
  • Serve as an advisor or coach to junior analysts and developers.
  • Operate with a limited level of direct supervision while exercising independent judgment and autonomy.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to senior stakeholders and team members.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years of relevant application development experience.
  • Strong experience in Full Stack Java development, including Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and front-end technologies such as Angular, React, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB, including database design, indexing, aggregation pipelines, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience in systems analysis, design, development, and programming of enterprise software applications.
  • Experience managing and delivering successful technology projects.
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and software engineering best practices.
  • Good understanding of distributed systems, API integration, and cloud-based application architectures.
  • Good to have: Exposure to Python development, data processing, automation, and Generative AI technologies such as LLMs, AI-assisted development tools, prompt engineering, or AI-driven application features.
  • Working knowledge of consulting and project management techniques/methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
