Position: Senior Software Engineer โ€“ Analysis Systems Employment Status: Exempt, Full Time Location: Salt Lake City, Corporate Office Company Profile:

Carterra is a fast-growing life science biotechnology company headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our name comes from two ideas; cartography (mapping) and terra (worlds), โ€œmapping worlds.โ€ That captures our high-speed, high-resolution, label-free biosensor technology, which leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies use to explore territory in biotherapeutic drug discovery that was previously impossible to investigate.

Our platform helps researchers identify promising targets early in the drug discovery process, significantly reducing the risk and cost of bringing new therapies forward. The software you build here directly accelerates that science.

Job Summary:

We are building the next generation of Carterraโ€™s analysis software, a cloud-native platform that helps scientists transform biosensor data into discoveries faster than ever before. Reporting to the Head of Applications Development, the Senior Software Engineer will be an early contributor, helping design and build the core services, user experiences, and AI capabilities that power drug discovery at leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
This hybrid role supports product validation activities, application development efforts, product launches, and technical content creation. This is a handsโ€‘on, highโ€‘impact role who will help define the architecture and technical direction while using AI to build better software and embedding AI capabilities into the product itself.

Essential Functions:
  • Shape the technical direction of the platform and Drive architectural decisions.
  • Influence product direction, reduce technical, and organizational complexity through technical leadership.
  • Work across engineering, product, and science to build solutions, not just features.
  • Improve developer productivity and raise the engineering bar through technical leadership and mentorship.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies and current processes to make pragmatic decisions that balance speed, quality, and longโ€‘term maintainability
  • Contribute technical content for product launches, training materials, and customerโ€‘facing resources.
  • Support software testing, data analysis, and related administrative activities.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • 5+ years building and shipping production software, with deep proficiency in C# and .NET.
  • Ability to design, build, and operate scalable, secure cloudโ€‘native systems using Azure, AWS, or GCP, including APIs, containers, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Experience with AIโ€‘assisted and agentic development to accelerate engineering and integrating LLMs or AI services into production software.
  • Own features and their outcomes from architecture and implementation to deployment and operational excellence. Deliver outcomes, not just features.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals for building reliable, scalable, and secure software.
  • Ability to raise the bar across the team in quality, security, and craftsmanship through review and mentorship.
  • A collaborative teamโ€‘first instinct that partners with stakeholders to translate research workflows into intuitive userโ€‘centered software.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with agent frameworks or LLM orchestration (e.g., MCP, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar).
  • Background in scientific, lifeโ€‘science, instrumentation, or other dataโ€‘intensive software domains.
  • Frontโ€‘end skills (TypeScript / modern web frameworks) to complement backโ€‘end depth.
  • Experience standing up a new platform or product from the ground up.
  • Familiarity with data engineering, large datasets, or realโ€‘time data visualization.
How we Work

Carterra is looking for people of action. These are the traits that define our team:

  • We act like owners. We treat the product as our own and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • We tackle hard problems. We lean into challenges and ambiguity, choosing to solve the problems others avoid.
  • We are selfโ€‘motivated. We do not wait to be told; We see what needs to be done and do it.
  • We are collaborative. We communicate openly, challenge respectfully, and succeed together.
