Job description

Job Overview: 

SAPA Transmission is seeking a Senior CNC Programmer with experience in Mastercam, Siemens NX, or other CAD/CAM programming languages. This role will be responsible for creating, implementing, and optimizing machining processes for next‑generation transmissions used in U.S. Army tracked combat vehicles. As a Senior CNC Programmer, you will play a key role in defining machine programming, selecting cutting tools, and implementing probing techniques to develop efficient manufacturing processes that minimize human intervention, quality issues, and machine downtime.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, implement, and refine NC/CNC programs for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers and mill-turn equipment, focusing on the machining of transmission housings, covers, piston housings, gears, and splines.
  • Setup CNC machines to run programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis centers and mill-turning equipment.
  • Analyze engineering specifications, blueprints, and process flows to ensure efficient, accurate machining of transmission components that meet customer requirements.
  • Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste, enhance cycle time, improve tool life, and optimize overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Collaborate directly with the shop floor team to swiftly address and resolve programming, quality, and manufacturing challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.
  • Utilize Siemens Teamcenter Manufacturing Resource Library to define the tools required for programming component machining processes.
  • Oversee cutting tool performance and supplier coordination.
  • Support implementation and optimization of cutting tool setups on machines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on machining experience across turning (lathe) and milling operations.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of CNC programming experience using CAD/CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, or equivalent.
  • Skilled in using Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for managing Bill of Materials and Bill of Processes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, technical specifications, and procedures.
  • Proven experience in commissioning new CNC machines.
  • Proficient in G-Code programming with a solid understanding of CNC operation and setup.
  • Skilled in using micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges, and other manual measurement tools.
  • Advanced Renishaw probe programming experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of machining aluminum, mild steels, alloy steels, and stainless steel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork and problem-solving.
