Job description

Job Summary:
The Project Controls Analyst is responsible for analyzing and reporting on project controls for Strike's construction and maintenance projects to include project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, cost tracking, and quality review. The Project Control Analyst will assist Project Controls Director and team to establish operating policies to bring standardization and mitigate project risk.
Primary Job Function:
  • Collaborate closely with Project Controls, Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, and Construction teams to understand reporting needs and provide data-driven insights.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, incorporating advanced Power Query and data modeling techniques.
  • Build and maintain Excel models, including Pivot Tables, VBA macros, and financial modeling for forecasting and cost control.
  • Analyze project performance data (e.g., WIP, cost variance, schedule variance) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate projects using data-driven methods to determine whether they are on track or in trouble.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries to retrieve and validate data from relational databases.
  • Support and maintain metadata integrity, ensure job tagging, data dictionaries, and hierarchies are accurate and updated.
  • Lead and enforce data governance practices, ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with accounting to ensure accurate cost hierarchies and integration with financial systems like JDE.
  • Create and maintain scalable training programs and process documentation for enterprise-wide adoption.
  • Continuously identify and implement improvements in the data analytics and project controls processes.
Technical Skills:
Required:
  • Power BI - including Power Query, DAX, data modeling
  • Microsoft Excel - Advanced formulas, Pivot Tables, VBA/macros, modeling
  • SQL - Writing and validating complex queries
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) - Including productivity KPIs and Rules of Credit
  • Basic Relational Database Knowledge - Schema, normalization, joins, keys
  • ETL/Data Pipeline Concepts - basic understanding preferred
  • Document Control Tools/Systems - Experience maintaining project documentation
Nice to Have:
  • Power Automate - (preferred) for workflow automation
  • Data Governance - Policy enforcement, stewardship, and integrity tracking
  • Hierarchy & Metadata Management - WBS, Org Hierarchy, Chart of Accounts, Job Metadata
  • JDE (JD Edwards)

Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis and project controls reporting
  • Demonstrated success in creating dashboards, reports, and analytical models
  • Experience in cost control, forecasting, and earned value reporting
  • Familiarity with document control practices across business units
  • Oil & gas or industrial construction experience preferred
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Accounting, Construction Management, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Information Systems)
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus
