What are Senior Principal SAS Programmers?

Senior Principal SAS Programmers are highly experienced professionals who specialize in using SAS (Statistical Analysis System) software to analyze and manage large datasets, especially in industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and finance. They lead statistical programming activities, develop complex programs for data analysis, and ensure the quality and integrity of deliverables. In addition to their technical expertise, they often mentor junior programmers, provide guidance on best practices, and collaborate closely with statisticians and project teams to support regulatory submissions and clinical trials.

What is the difference between Senior Principal Sas Programmer vs SAS Data Scientist?

The Senior Principal Sas Programmer primarily focuses on advanced SAS programming for clinical and regulatory data, while the SAS Data Scientist emphasizes data analysis, modeling, and insights. Both roles require SAS expertise and often overlap in data handling, but their core responsibilities and industry applications differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Principal SAS Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Principal SAS Programmer, you need advanced expertise in SAS programming, statistical analysis, and a strong background in life sciences or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree. Mastery of SAS Base, SAS Macro, and SDTM/ADaM standards, as well as experience with clinical trial data management systems and regulatory submission processes, is crucial. Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you lead projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of clinical data analysis, which is vital for regulatory approvals and successful study outcomes.

How does a Senior Principal SAS Programmer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in clinical research projects?

A Senior Principal SAS Programmer frequently works alongside biostatisticians, data managers, and clinical research associates to ensure the accuracy and integrity of clinical trial data. They are often responsible for developing and validating complex programs for data analysis and reporting, as well as providing technical guidance to junior programmers. Effective communication and a collaborative mindset are crucial, as they must interpret statistical analysis plans and translate them into SAS code while aligning with regulatory requirements and project timelines. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for meeting project milestones and delivering high-quality submissions.

ToolsGroup

Job description

About ToolsGroupย

ToolsGroup is a global leader in supply chain planning and optimization. We help companies plan with confidence by unifyingย probabilistic forecasting,ย advanced optimization, andย real-time orchestrationย to drive resilience, service, and profitability. Our portfolio powers retailers, distributors, and manufacturers around the worldโ€”earning repeated recognitionย by industry analysts for ourย Supply Chain Planning Solutions, differentiated by probabilistic forecasting and inventory-aware demand shaping capabilities.ย ย ย

The Opportunityย

The supply chain world is undergoing its most profound shift in decades.ย Agentic AIโ€”autonomous, reasoning, action-taking systemsโ€”is accelerating toward mainstream adoption. Gartner projects that by 2030, roughly half of supply chain solutions will embed intelligent agents that execute decisions in real time. ToolsGroup is investing to lead the next era:ย decision-centric planning, where systems not only predict but act.ย

This is a rare opportunity to shape a first-of-its-kind product area inside a market-leading planning platform. You will join an elite, senior team working at startup velocity inside an established companyโ€”building foundational capabilities that will define how planners work for the next decade.ย

The Roleย

As aย [[Senior / Principal]]ย Technical Product Manager for Agentic AI, you willย own ToolsGroupโ€™s Agentic AI strategyย and drive the first wave of agentic capabilities across our Supply Chain Planning portfolio. This includes:ย

  • Defining and owning the long-term Agentic AI strategyย for ToolsGroupย

  • Leading the Zero-to-One discovery and delivery of ourย initialย Agentic AI releasesย for planners, from conceptย โ†’ย prototypeย โ†’ย GAย

  • Owning the Agentic Development Platformย that powers these agentsโ€”enabling our internal product teams (and eventually business partners) to build, deploy, and monitor autonomous, human-in-the-loop agentsย

  • Working inside aย high-caliber, high-velocity incubation teamย with direct access to design, ML/engineering, field, and executive leadershipย

  • Managingย outcomesโ€”not people, while operating withย executive visibility and significant growth potentialย

This is both a strategic and deeply hands-on role. You will be the connective tissue between engineering, ML, design, and the fieldโ€”turning ambiguous ideas into clear product direction, working prototypes, and production systems that customers trust.ย

What Youโ€™ll Doย

Product Leadership & Strategyย

  • Own theย Agentic AI strategy, roadmap, and north-star outcomesย across ToolsGroupโ€™s planning suiteย

  • Define theย agentic capability model: reasoning, tool-use, guardrails, evaluation, telemetry, and human-in-the-loop controlsย

  • Translate market signals, customer interviews, executive direction, and discovery insights into clear, compelling product betsย

Zero-to-One Discovery & First Release Executionย

  • Lead rapid, iterative discovery to shape the first planner-facing agentsย

  • Prototype with ML/engineering to validate feasibility, value, and trust requirementsย

  • Define and instrument evaluation suites for task success, safety, and regressionย

  • Own PRDs, experience flows, instrumentation, and rollout plansย

Agentic Development Platform Ownershipย

  • Partner with engineering/ML to define theย platform capabilitiesย enabling agent creation (tool-use APIs, orchestration patterns, evaluation harnesses, governance frameworks)ย

  • Ensure the platform is usable by internal product teamsโ€”and extensible to partners over timeย

  • Establish conventions for prompt/policy design, grounding/RAG, safety constraints, and action workflowsย

Execution & Cross-functional Leadershipย

  • Work side-by-side with design to define intuitive agentโ€“planner interaction modelsย

  • Partner with the field to identify lighthouse customers, shape pilots, and gather feedbackย

  • Collaborate with marketing and sales enablement to tell a clear agentic value storyย

  • Operate with high velocity while maintaining trust, safety, and enterprise-grade rigorย

What Weโ€™re Looking Forย

Experienceย

  • 7โ€“10+ years in Product Management, withย Zero-to-One product deliveryย in ML/AI-heavyย domainsย

  • Experience withย Agentic AI, autonomous planning systems, or control-plane design experienceย (build->embed->manage)ย

  • Experience shippingย LLM-based products, ideally with tool-use/function calling, orchestration, grounding/RAG, evaluation frameworks, and safety guardrailsย

  • Demonstrated success inย high-velocity environments, incubation teams, or startup-likeย product groupsย

  • Excellent written and verbal communicationโ€”clear, concise, executive-readyย

Preferred Experienceย

  • Strong systems intuition across supply chain planning (S\&OP/S\&OE, forecasting, allocation, replenishment, production, logistics) or adjacent decision systemsย

  • Understanding of ERP/WMS/TMS/APS integrations and operational workflowsย

  • Comfort with probabilistic models, optimization, and ML operationsย

  • Prior work building development platforms or internal-facingย shared servicesย ย ย

Ways of Workingย

  • Empowered,ย outcome-oriented product thinkingย

  • Curious, hypothesis-driven, and comfortable with ambiguityย

  • Collaborative withย engineering + MLย + Design; respectful but challenging of constraintsย

  • Strong communicator and evangelistย

  • Obsessed withย customers (DILO ofย planners), establishing system trustย and real-world usabilityย

  • Operate with clarity, urgency, and a willingness to prototype and learnย

Applying to this job the candidate consents that his/her data are treated by ToolsGroup in compliance with the GDPR n. 2016/679 GDPR and Transparency Document

U.S. applicant notice: This employer participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. ToolsGroup is CCPA/CPRA compliant.
