What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior Power Platform developer?

To thrive as a Senior Power Platform Developer, you need expertise in Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI), proficiency in programming languages like JavaScript and C#, and substantial experience with database management and solution architecture. Familiarity with tools like Azure, Dataverse, and experience with certifications such as Microsoft Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400) are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and collaborative skills set top performers apart in this field. These competencies are essential for designing, implementing, and optimizing complex business solutions that drive digital transformation and efficiency.

What is a senior Power Platform developer?

A Senior Power Platform Developer is an experienced professional who designs, develops, and implements solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, which includes Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents. They are responsible for building custom business applications, automating workflows, integrating data sources, and supporting digital transformation initiatives within organizations. Senior developers also mentor junior team members, ensure best practices, and often collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver effective solutions. Their expertise helps organizations streamline processes and improve productivity using low-code/no-code tools.

Job description

Join a Challenger
At EQ, we're remaking banking so every Canadian gets ahead, every day. Serving nearly 4 million Canadians from coast to coast, we offer a wide variety of financial services from banking and lending, to trust and credit union solutions.
We've been at this since 1970, challenging the conventions of traditional banking with smarter, faster, and more connected financial experiences.
What's kept us moving?  The people behind it all: challengers who ask better questions, push back on old assumptions, and look for a better way forward.
If you're driven to help reshape how banking works for Canadians and the businesses that power our economy, this could be your next big opportunity.
We can't wait to get to know you!

The Work

As a Staff Cloud Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical expert supporting EQ Bank's Microsoft cloud platforms with a focus on Power Platform (30%), Azure Cloud Engineering (30%), AKS and DevOps Enablement (20%), and Platform Process Improvement (20%). Reporting to the Director, Cloud Operations, you will design, implement, and improve reusable platform capabilities that empower both professional and citizen developers across the bank.

You will work hands-on with Azure services, PaaS workloads, Kubernetes, and DevOps toolchains, while also contributing to Power Platform governance and lifecycle enablement. As a technical leader, you'll collaborate with engineering, security, operations, and business stakeholders to drive platform maturity, automation, scalability, and compliance across our cloud environments.

The Core Responsibilities!

Cloud Platform Engineering & Operations (30%)

  • Design, build, and optimize Azure platform components including App Services, Azure Functions, Key Vaults, and API Management.

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Bicep for scalable and secure resource provisioning.

  • Implement observability patterns across infrastructure and workloads using tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.

  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and operations teams to ensure platforms meet SLAs, DR/RTO requirements, and compliance expectations.

Power Platform Enablement (30%)

  • Develop and maintain automation for Power Platform lifecycle management, including ALM pipelines and environment provisioning.

  • Implement data loss prevention (DLP) policies, app usage reporting, and licensing optimization for Power Platform components.

  • Collaborate with Governance and Security teams to establish safe, compliant citizen development frameworks.

  • Provide technical guidance to Power Platform users and support solution acceleration across the organization.

AKS Platform & DevOps Practices (20%)

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps to deploy containerized workloads into AKS.

  • Implement secure AKS architectures, including ingress, autoscaling, monitoring, and security controls.

  • Enable GitOps patterns and promote modern deployment practices in collaboration with product engineering teams.

  • Contribute to DevSecOps initiatives and embed security, performance, and resiliency into deployment pipelines.

Platform Process & Maturity Improvements (20%)

  • Lead initiatives to improve cloud platform operational processes, including incident management, platform health, and self-service enablement.

  • Define platform engineering standards and reusable blueprints to reduce manual effort and increase team efficiency.

  • Contribute to FinOps and cost optimization practices through resource tagging, usage reporting, and automation.

  • Promote knowledge sharing and engineering excellence across teams through documentation, workshops, and reusable patterns.

Let's Talk About You!
  • Post-Secondary education, preferably in the areas of Technology.
  • 8+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles in enterprise environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure, PaaS services, Power Platform, and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service).
  • Knowledge of GCP is considered an asset.
  • Strong experience with Terraform/Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows.
  • Strong background in cloud solution architecture and development of lowlevel design documentation
  • Practical understanding of DevOps and SRE practices including automation, observability, and incident response.
  • Experience supporting Power Platform governance (DLP, ALM, monitoring) and citizen development enablement.
  • Skilled in designing secure and scalable AKS workloads and containerized platform services.
  • Excellent collaboration, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and YAML/JSON-based configurations.
What we offer [For full-time permanent roles]

Competitive discretionary bonus
Market leading RRSP match program
Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits

Maternity/Parental top-up while you care for your little one
Generous vacation policy and personal days
