Kelly is seeking experienced Powder Coating Technicians for direct-hire opportunities with a growing manufacturing operation in Kearny NJ.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on powder coating experience who is comfortable working with manual spray equipment, industrial ovens, coating measurement tools, and detailed work instructions.
 

Location: Kearny, NJ
Employment Type: Direct Hire

1st Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Pay: $23.00-$25.00/hr

3rd Shift: Monday-Friday, 11:00 PM-7:30 AM
Pay: $27.60-$30.00/hr

What You'll Be Doing
  • Prepare metal surfaces for coating through cleaning, sanding, masking, and other required preparation methods.

  • Operate manual powder coating spray guns and spray booth equipment.

  • Apply powder coatings evenly while meeting job specifications and finish requirements.

  • Set and monitor oven controls to ensure proper curing temperatures and cycle times.

  • Use MIL thickness gauges and other measuring instruments to verify coating thickness.

  • Inspect completed parts for finish quality, consistency, coverage, and defects.

  • Read and follow 2D drawings, work instructions, and production specifications.

  • Complete required production documentation accurately and on time.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor equipment adjustments when needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Follow established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.

What We're Looking For
  • At least 1 year of experience in a powder coating environment using manual spray applications.

  • Ability to read and interpret 2D prints and written work instructions.

  • Experience using MIL thickness measurement equipment.

  • Ability to set operating parameters and use industrial oven controls.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing a quality finish.

  • Good communication and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Comfortable using computers and basic production systems.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the work area for extended periods.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work in a variety of positions.

  • Manual dexterity to safely operate spray guns, tools, and handle parts.

  • Visual ability to identify coating defects and finish inconsistencies.

  • Ability to work around normal manufacturing conditions including dust, fumes, heat, and noise.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials as required by the position.
