Job description

Senior Plumber
City: West Lafayette
Job Description:
What You'll be Doing:
Provide plumbing construction and maintenance services for the Birck Nanotechnology Center, a highly specialized facility that supports advanced research. The building includes complex systems that distribute ultra-clean air and utilities, supported by sophisticated control and alarm systems to ensure safety and cleanliness.
Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for heating, gas, air, water, and drainage in compliance with cleanroom standards. Inspect, evaluate, and oversee the fabrication of piping using a variety of materials, including galvanized, black iron, copper, stainless steel, glass, cast iron, ductile iron, duriron, clay, concrete, and aluminum. Read and interpret blueprints, perform calculations, and develop schematics for plumbing system installations and modifications.
Coordinate and provide guidance to other tradespeople as needed within the facility. Work may involve exposure to hazardous production materials (HPM), and strict adherence to safety protocols and cleanroom procedures is required at all times. Specialized training will be provided to support maintenance of these complex systems.
This role may also include performing plumbing work in other buildings within the assigned zone. Employees are required to carry a pager on a rotational basis and be available for 24-hour callback in the event of system failures or emergencies.
The typical work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Compensation ranges from $23.47 to $32.65 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • 4 years of industrial plumbing

Skills Needed:
  • Must pass all applicable training required for performing maintenance within the Nano-Technology building and associated clean rooms, including but not limited to completing Birck training matrix and safety training
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material necessary
  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to perform work in the Nano-
  • Knowledge of pipes, fittings and fixtures for heating, gas, air, water, and drainage systems necessary
  • Ability to successfully complete supervisory training courses supervisory courses as directed
  • Computer skills/familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets
  • Ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and schematics a must
  • Exposed to adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces and working from heights
  • Personal protective equipment required during specific operations
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally
  • Valid driver's license required
  • General knowledge of one or more skilled crafts preferred
  • Technology Building and clean rooms preferred
