Job description

Overview
Under general supervision, the Senior Permit Technician is responsible for leading a team of permit technicians and customer service representatives through the day-to-day operations of the permitting process. Using IPS and other software as needed, this position will be responsible for ensuring the permitting process is running effectively and efficiently while maintaining a cohesive team.
Responsibilities
  • Provides direct supervision to a team of Permit Technicians and Customer Services Representatives. Ensures compliance with department policies and performance standards. Acts as first approver on permit issues raised by customers
  • Provides intake, review, processing, and issuance services related to Development Services business practices. Ensures all documents necessary for permit intake and issuance are submitted, reviewed, and completed
  • Provides customers with real time interaction relating to permitting information. Assists in answering customer questions and employee questions regarding permit specifics. Acts as first approver on permit issues raised by customers
  • Provides general information to contractors, property owners, development professionals, and other stakeholders regarding City Ordinances and/or policies
  • Develops and implements personalized training, with assistance from supervisors, for direct reporting team members with the goal of improving efficiency, accuracy, effectiveness, and overall customer service skills
  • Provides personalized plan review services for residential and commercial projects. Facilitates meetings between staff, customers, and other internal departments to ensure resolution related to adopted codes. Performs completeness checks and plan reviews to assist with obtaining COO's

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
  • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
  • Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Five (5) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications
Required
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within twelve (12) months of hire
  • ICC Permit Technician
  • ICC Zoning Inspector

Required within eighteen (18) months of hire
  • ICC Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector

Basis of Rating
