Job Description
The Advanced Radar Program provides engineering and technical services necessary to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center - Port Hueneme Division's (PHD) mission, including In-Service Engineering, Acquisition Engineering, Software Support (ISE/AE/SSA), Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Installation Services/Support/Coordination, Programmatic/ Project Management Support, and Staging Facility Support Services. For this specific position, the candidate will provide direct technical support to the Government In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) as a Senior Radar Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for performing engineering design, modification, or test and underway test and evaluation, and data analysis for Navy shipboard surface radar systems.
Eight (8) years of experience conducting engineering development of combat systems under general direction. Practical experience in performing engineering design, modification, or test and evaluation for shipboard air and surface search radar systems (e.g., SPY-1, SPS-48, SPS-49, SPS-67, SPS-73)
  • Practical experience in design requirements, technical documentation development, manufacturing, testing, and fielding of Navy radar systems
  • Practical experience troubleshooting shipboard radar systems
  • Experience with the development of technical documentation, technical reports, and documenting engineering activities.
  • Experience in underway test & evaluation, and Navy radar systems data analysis
  • Practical experience with Navy weapon system development under the DoD Acquisition Process of DOD Directive 5000.01
  • Working knowledge of Change Requests & Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Familiar with Navy Logistics Support elements including Training, Provisioning, Technical Documentation, and Configuration Management

The Senior Radar Engineer will support the ISEA in the areas of design improvement, performance evaluation, development test planning and execution, training curriculum development, technical documentation, maintenance procedures, and underway testing. He/she will serve as the ISEA's Subject Matter Expert for the radar as part of development, ship integration, and fielding of the radar in all ship classes. The candidate will participate in the introduction and evaluation of new functions and capabilities into the fleet and will sometimes perform direct fleet support, documenting results of maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution actions accomplished while onboard. In addition, the candidate will perform the following functions:
  • Work directly with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), evaluating system design, providing engineering evaluation and recommendations for the development of radar modifications/upgrades, and provide engineering oversight on behalf of the Navy customer
  • Perform System Engineering functions
  • Support engineering efforts related to design, testing, and analysis of NGSSR modifications and support fleet introduction of these new capabilities
  • Perform land-based and underway testing and analysis of radar systems and provide hands-on training for shipboard maintenance technicians
  • Support technical documentation development and modifications required as a result of system improvements
  • Assist in ship integration planning and combat system interface development and testing
  • Perform post-installation System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) and On-the-Job Training (OJT) for ship's force

Job Requirements
EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in engineering, computer science, math or physics is desired.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  • Familiar with the US Navy installation planning process (desired)
  • Familiar with US Navy underway operations (desired)
  • High quality interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Personal computer skills (competent with MS Office applications)
