Job description

Senior Superintendent – Healthcare Construction (Bay Area)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA Reports to: Project Executive / Director of Field Operations Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Our client, a general contractor with an active healthcare construction portfolio across the Bay Area, is seeking a Senior Superintendent with hands-on OSHPD/HCAI healthcare construction experience to lead field operations on hospital, medical office, and healthcare facility projects.

The ideal candidate has run jobs inside active, occupied healthcare environments — managing infection control, interim life safety measures (ILSM), and the rigorous inspection and documentation standards required for OSHPD/HCAI-regulated work — and has the field discipline to keep patients, staff, and inspectors satisfied while hitting demanding schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all field operations for healthcare construction projects, from mobilization through OSHPD/HCAI closeout and certification.
  • Manage Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), infection control risk assessments (ICRA), and interim life safety plans in active/occupied healthcare facilities.
  • Coordinate closely with hospital facilities staff, infection control officers, and OSHPD/HCAI inspectors on daily field activity.
  • Manage subcontractors, schedules, quality control, and jobsite safety across multiple concurrent work areas.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation standards required for OSHPD/HCAI inspection and closeout (IOR coordination, testing/inspection logs, as-builts).
  • Lead daily coordination meetings and maintain a proactive look-ahead schedule to manage phased, occupied-facility construction sequencing.
  • Partner with the Project Executive/PM on budget tracking, change orders, and owner communication.
  • Maintain strong relationships with hospital facilities/capital projects teams, OSHPD/HCAI reviewers, and healthcare-experienced subcontractors.
  • Mentor assistant superintendents and field engineers on healthcare-specific field requirements.
  • Uphold strict safety, infection control, and life-safety standards in a sensitive, occupied clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction superintendent experience, with significant time on OSHPD/HCAI-regulated healthcare projects in California.
  • Proven experience working in active/occupied hospital or clinical environments (ILSM, ICRA, interim life safety compliance).
  • Established relationships with Bay Area health systems, hospital facilities teams, and healthcare-focused subcontractors.
  • Working knowledge of OSHPD/HCAI inspection, testing, and closeout requirements.
  • Strong scheduling skills — comfortable managing phased construction sequencing in occupied facilities.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to coordinate with hospital staff, inspectors, and infection control officers.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • High school diploma required; trade school or construction management coursework a plus.

What's On Offer

  • Leadership role on high-impact healthcare projects across the Bay Area
  • Competitive base salary + performance bonus
  • Full benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match)
  • Vehicle allowance / mileage reimbursement
  • Strong path to Senior Superintendent of Special Projects or Director of Field Operations
