Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation is a US-based gold and silver mining company, which operates its wholly owned Hycroft open pit, gold, and silver mine located an hour southwest of Winnemucca, Nevada.

Job Description

The Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight of open pit mine planning, engineering, and surveying functions at the Hycroft mine site. This role ensures that mine plans are optimized, executable, and aligned with site and corporate objectives while supporting safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.


Working closely with Operations, Geology, and site leadership, this position drives short, medium, and long-term planning strategies, manages technical risks, and ensures the delivery of high-quality engineering support to enable operational success and future site development.

Initially this role will focus on providing support for long-term planning, economic trade-off studies, and technical studies.  

Essential Functions

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support for all aspects of open-pit mining operations
  • Develop, review, and optimize short-, medium-, and long-range mine plans, including life-of-mine (LOM) strategies, pit designs, sequencing, and scheduling. 
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes through technical analysis and cost evaluation
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve mine productivity, equipment utilization, operational efficiency, and resource recovery
  • Conduct engineering studies and trade-off analyses related to mine design, haulage, equipment selection, and operational improvements
  • Monitor operational performance against plan and recommend corrective actions to achieve production and cost targets
  • Collaborate with geology, operations, processing, maintenance, environmental, and finance teams to ensure integrated mine planning and execution
  • Analyze production, cost, and equipment performance data to support operational decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management, corporate leadership, and external stakeholders
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to mine engineers, planners, and other technical personnel
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Utilize mine planning and engineering software to develop accurate designs, schedules, and operational analyses
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, capital projects, and mine expansion studies as required
  • Carries out other related duties as required to support business operations.


Requirements:

Experience and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or equivalent required with a minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years’ experience in open pit mine operations.
  • Strong background in open-pit mining operations, mine design, and production optimization
  • Proficiency in mine planning and design software (Vulcan, Micromine, Deswik)
  • Experience with budgeting, cost control, and financial evaluation of mining projects and operations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical and operational issues
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and utilizing data-driven approaches to improve performance
  • Familiarity with fleet management systems, dispatch systems, Trimble technologies, and AutoCAD is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and project management capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and influence decision-making across departments


Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When in the field, appropriate hearing protection may be needed. 


Safety

Expected to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times while in a production environment (Hard Hat, Steel Toed Boots and Reflective Visible Clothing/Vest) or as required for the specific job duty. Must be able to wear a respirator to perform specific job duties by utilizing a ½ or full-face respirator. Be alert and observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Assure that appropriate task training has been completed and documented for all equipment, vehicles, and systems.
