What is a senior network engineer?

Senior Network Engineers are experienced IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex computer networks within organizations. They oversee network infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, ensure network security, and optimize performance. Typically, they lead network projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations. Their expertise covers a range of technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, and cloud networking.

What are some common challenges faced by senior network engineers when managing large-scale network infrastructures?

Senior Network Engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating new technologies into legacy systems, ensuring network security across a growing number of devices, and maintaining high availability while performing upgrades or troubleshooting. Balancing the demands of multiple stakeholders—like IT, security, and business units—can also be complex. Staying updated with evolving protocols and proactively identifying potential performance bottlenecks are crucial parts of effectively managing large-scale environments.

Your role ensures the overall security and integrity of our corporate network by leveraging network security best practices, innovative products, and rigorous security validation.

The Senior Network Operations Engineer Opportunity

Reporting to the Network Engineering Manager, this role will own the full operational lifecycle, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and availability for distinct network services across our global enterprise. You will apply a systems-level perspective and leverage strong proficiency in core technical skills-including Infrastructure as Code, observability, and automation-to design scalable architectures, eliminate manual toil, and lead technical efforts to ensure an "Always Secure. Always On." environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Manage the full operational lifecycle, SLOs, and availability for distinct network services or platforms across global offices and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders-including Business Technology, Workplace, Security, and TDI teams-to plan projects, improve IT network security, and resolve recurring incidents.
  • Develop and maintain system consistency across the fleet by scheduling change requests, configuring network monitoring tools, and participating in an on-call rotation to remediate outages.
  • Lead technical delivery, innovative architecture research, and blameless post-mortems following incidents to drive systemic learning.
  • Coach and mentor team members by recognizing their potential, recommending appropriate training, and drawing out subtle connections in network problems from a systems perspective.
What you'll bring to the role
  • 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3+ years with a Master's degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking concepts, principles, and protocols, including WiFi, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPN, ACLs, Routing, and Firewall Policies.
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate deployment, scaling, and recovery, alongside proficiency in scripting or programming languages to build custom tooling.
  • Proven experience with observability tools, utilizing a data-driven approach to define and monitor SLIs/SLOs, and a working knowledge of network device monitoring, alerting, and logging.
  • Direct experience working with hardware/software vendors, Internet/WAN connectivity partners, and managing wireless networks.
Why Join Us
  • Desirable Technical Skills: Experience with Juniper/JUNOS switching/routing, Palo Alto Networks NGFWs, and enterprise office build and construction processes is highly desired and will help you hit the ground running.
  • Direct Customer Impact: You will have the opportunity to showcase your strong focus on customer and technology experiences, ensuring a secure, consistent end-user experience across a global enterprise network.
