Digital Technology & Research, Engineering & Design, Manufacturing

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Umbilical Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic Umbilical & Cable Systems Engineering team at our manufacturing and design facility in Mobile, AL.

The Umbilical Senior Mechanical Engineer will function as the technical lead responsible for the design, manufacturing and delivery of subsea oil and gas umbilicals and distribution equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of subsea umbilical systems, inclusive of umbilical cross section, topside and subsea umbilical terminations.
  • Function as primary technical contact with clients and suppliers.
  • Manage all project technical deliverables while adhering to project budget and schedule
  • Engineering specification of sub-supplied ancillaries such as dynamic bend stiffeners, bend stiffener connectors, buoyancy and ballast modules, and various clamp assemblies.
  • Oversight and completion of engineering calculations and reports required for cross section design, end termination strength, seabed stability, corrosion protection, accumulated plastic strain, sea fastening and any other project specific requirements
  • Develop manufacturing plan and umbilical layout for most efficient manufacturing of the umbilicals
  • Provide close support of all manufacturing activities including umbilical bundling and extrusion, termination, factory acceptance testing and loadout and installation
  • Design of test samples and procedures for typical API 17E umbilical tests such as umbilical flex fatigue, tensile and torsional, end strength, bending stiffness, bundle impact, crush, internal friction and tensioner hold back testing
  • Produce all required technical project documentation to be delivered to and agreed upon with the client
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during all phases of project execution
  • Manage client and supplier interfaces
  • Evaluate effectiveness, safety, and economic impact of designs and optimize as required
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, procurement, quality, manufacturing and offshore installation teams
  • Support sales related activities such as estimating, technical reviews of proposals and client meetings as needed
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, mechanical is preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in engineering. Subsea engineering experience is strongly preferred but not required
