Role: Senior Network Engineer / Network Operations Lead

Location: Columbia, SC

Duration: 24 Months

Overview / Summary:

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support daily enterprise network engineering operations in a campus environment. This is an onsite position responsible for maintaining wired and wireless network infrastructure, resolving network incidents, performing network maintenance, and supporting secure, reliable connectivity across university facilities. The role includes participation in an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance and incident response.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, maintain, and support enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure, including switching, routing, and connectivity services.
  • Install, configure, rack, stack, cable, and test network equipment during field deployments.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve network connectivity, performance, and security-related issues.
  • Investigate incidents through remote analysis and onsite troubleshooting while coordinating repairs as needed.
  • Perform routine network maintenance, including upgrades, patching, configuration changes, and performance optimization.
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, incident records, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with network engineering, architecture, security, infrastructure teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Support network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, and related security controls.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide occasional after-hours maintenance and incident response.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with enterprise networking, including switching, routing, wireless networking, and TCP/IP.
  • 2+ years of experience configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and Fortinet network devices.
  • 2+ years of experience diagnosing and resolving network connectivity, performance, and security issues.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting firewalls, VPNs, access controls, and network security best practices.
  • 2+ years of experience installing and supporting network infrastructure, including racking, stacking, cabling, and testing.
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining technical documentation, network diagrams, and operational records.
  • 2+ years of experience with OSPF, BGP, VLANs, spanning tree, and high-availability architectures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
