What is a senior network engineer?

Senior Network Engineers are experienced IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex computer networks within organizations. They oversee network infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, ensure network security, and optimize performance. Typically, they lead network projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations. Their expertise covers a range of technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, and cloud networking.

What does a senior network engineer do?

A senior network engineer builds and maintains data communication networks for a company or organization. As a senior network engineer, you have several years of industry experience and lead a team of junior network engineers and network administrators to ensure both the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) are functioning properly. Your job duties include installing software and hardware, creating a layout plan for cables, and troubleshooting and solving problems that arise with the networks for which you are responsible.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior network engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Senior Network Engineer, you need a deep understanding of network architecture, protocols, security, and typically a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and experience with tools like Cisco IOS, Juniper, or cloud networking platforms, along with certifications such as CCNP or CCIE, are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and leadership are crucial for designing solutions and collaborating with IT teams. These competencies ensure reliable, secure, and scalable network infrastructures that support critical business operations.

What are some common challenges faced by senior network engineers when managing large-scale network infrastructures?

Senior Network Engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating new technologies into legacy systems, ensuring network security across a growing number of devices, and maintaining high availability while performing upgrades or troubleshooting. Balancing the demands of multiple stakeholders—like IT, security, and business units—can also be complex. Staying updated with evolving protocols and proactively identifying potential performance bottlenecks are crucial parts of effectively managing large-scale environments.

About Us

We are an MVNA (Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator) focused on powering IoT connectivity solutions across industries. Our mission is to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable IoT connectivity through advanced network integrations, cloud infrastructure, and carrier-grade partnerships.

Role Overview

We’re hiring a hands‑on Senior Network Engineer who will own end‑to‑end design, deployment, and operations of MVNA/MVNO core network components. This is both a network engineering and solution architecture role, ensuring our IoT customers receive high‑performance, secure, and resilient connectivity.

You will work with cloud networking, MVNO/MVNO architecture, and critical interconnects, while also collaborating with carriers, enterprise customers, and technology partners.

This role requires in‑office presence for close collaboration on network operations and partner integrations.

Responsibilities
  • Architect, deploy, and manage MVNA/MVNO core network infrastructure and interconnections.
  • Build and manage secure VPN tunnels for enterprise and carrier connectivity.
  • Configure and operate networking (Transit Gateway, VPCs, Direct Connect, route tables, IAM).
  • Integrate with carrier partners, ensuring reliable SLA delivery and traffic routing.
  • Design and manage BGP and other routing protocols across cloud and colocation networks.
  • Implement Equinix Fabric or equivalent interconnection platforms.
  • Lead customer solution architecture — translating IoT customer requirements into scalable network designs.
  • Establish monitoring, observability, and automation frameworks for network health and security.
  • Collaborate with vendors, carriers, and enterprise customers on technical requirements and escalations.
  • Document designs, runbooks, and operational playbooks.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Strong core network engineering experience (TCP/IP, routing, BGP, NAT, QoS).
  • Proven hands‑on experience with cloud networking (mandatory).
  • Deep knowledge of MVNO/MVNA network architecture and operations.
  • Ability to independently design and manage telecom‑grade network systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in telecom/MVNO/MNO network engineering.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work on site in-office full-time.
Important Secondary Skills
  • Experience with mobile core elements.
  • VPN tunnel setup and management (IPSec, GRE, etc.).
  • Routing policy management and traffic engineering.
  • Equinix Fabric or interconnection fabric experience.
  • Understanding of IoT‑specific networking needs (LTE-M, NB‑IoT, device behavior).
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform as an alternative to AWS.
  • Familiarity with SIM lifecycle management, eSIM/eUICC provisioning.
  • Telecom or cloud certifications (AWS Advanced Networking, CCNP/CCIE, JNCIE).
  • Exposure to LTE/5G EPC and core network elements.
  • Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 depending on experience.
  • Competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, PTO, and more.

Compensation: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
