Typically, they lead network projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations. Their expertise covers a range of technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, and cloud networking.

What does a senior network engineer do?

A senior network engineer builds and maintains data communication networks for a company or organization. As a senior network engineer, you have several years of industry experience and lead a team of junior network engineers and network administrators to ensure both the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) are functioning properly. Your job duties include installing software and hardware, creating a layout plan for cables, and troubleshooting and solving problems that arise with the networks for which you are responsible.

To excel as a Senior Network Engineer, you need a deep understanding of network architecture, protocols, security, and typically a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and experience with tools like Cisco IOS, Juniper, or cloud networking platforms, along with certifications such as CCNP or CCIE, are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and leadership are crucial for designing solutions and collaborating with IT teams. These competencies ensure reliable, secure, and scalable network infrastructures that support critical business operations.

What are some common challenges faced by senior network engineers when managing large-scale network infrastructures?

Senior Network Engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating new technologies into legacy systems, ensuring network security across a growing number of devices, and maintaining high availability while performing upgrades or troubleshooting. Balancing the demands of multiple stakeholders—like IT, security, and business units—can also be complex. Staying updated with evolving protocols and proactively identifying potential performance bottlenecks are crucial parts of effectively managing large-scale environments.

Job description

Doing business to business, person to person. Payworks is a leading workforce management solutions provider and multi-year winner of the Canada's Best Managed Companies program. We are proudly Canadian as well as committed to developing world-class products and providing a progressive workplace culture where Doing Right by People is our purpose.

With clients of all sizes and nearly 700 employees, we currently have an exciting opportunity on our Marketing team for the right candidate. Because when it comes to great people, there's always room for one more.

DOING RIGHT BY PEOPLE - IT'S WHAT WE DO
Reporting to the Manager, Business Development, the National Channel Manager, Accountants & Bookkeepers is a senior program management and brand ambassador role. This role is responsible for building the Payworks partnership program to engage accountants and bookkeepers as valued partners. You will design programs, create content, host events and webinars, and build Payworks' presence in the accounting community, establishing the company as a trusted partner. You will lead partnership conversations, onboard new partners, and grow the channel. This role carries revenue accountability with a variable pay component tied to channel performance. You'll need to be equally comfortable building campaigns as you are developing referral relationships and closing new partnerships. This is a builder's role suited to someone who moves fluidly between strategy and delivery.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE PAYWORKS
+Comprehensive employer paid benefits, including a Health Spending Account, for you and your family and excellent pension plan with employer contributions.
+Plenty of professional development opportunities.
+Community-minded culture - Receive two paid days per year to volunteer and lots of opportunity to "Pay it Forward".
+Time and flexibility to meet your needs - Hybrid work model with flexible work options, plus 3 weeks vacation to start, flex time and parental leave benefits.
+Cool perks - Annual Lifestyle Spending Account, fun office environment and events, and more!

BUILD. ENGAGE. GROW - IT'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
+Build & own the partner program - Build out, launch, and manage Payworks' national accountant and bookkeeper partner program including benefits, onboarding workflows, certification pathways, and professional development offerings. Define the full partner journey from recruitment through certification, activation, and growth, and build the playbooks, resources, and enablement materials for each stage.
+Create content & grow the brand - Working with the greater marketing team to create channel-specific content, partner newsletter articles, case studies, blog posts, social content, and educational guides that builds Payworks' credibility. Host and produce webinars, virtual events, and educational sessions.
+Represent Payworks - Build and maintain Payworks' online presence in accounting and bookkeeping communities, industry forums, LinkedIn and Reddit groups, association channels, and social platforms. Collaborate with Brand and Content teams to develop co-branded marketing assets and campaign materials. Represent Payworks at national and regional accounting industry events, conferences, trade shows, and association chapters as the company's channel ambassador.
+Develop & grow partnerships - Recruit accounting and bookkeeping firms nationally through relationship-building, event follow-up, content-driven inbound, and outbound outreach. Lead partnership conversations from first contact through signed agreement and onboarding, ensuring new partners are set up for success from day one. Build relationships with high-potential partners to drive mutual growth and deepening product adoption.
+Expand the ecosystem - Identify and pursue relationships with accounting associations, CPD providers, industry schools, and industry communities to expand Payworks' reach in the channel. Create and maintain partner resources including toolkits and co-marketing materials that help firms grow their payroll practice.
+Report & improve - Report on channel performance to inform priorities and positioning. Stay current on industry trends and developments in the accountant and bookkeeper channel. Continuously evolve the program based on partner feedback and market developments.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
+5+ years in channel marketing, partner marketing, partner management, or business development within SaaS, fintech, payroll, HR tech, or accounting technology. This is a senior specialist role with significant autonomy - you'll own the strategy and the execution.
+     Genuine interest in the Canadian accounting and bookkeeping community and the role payroll plays in practice growth.
+Have an established network in the Canadian accounting and bookkeeping community - CPA, CPB, or equivalent professional circles. You bring existing relationships and credibility.
+Strong program design instincts - you can architect partner programming, a certification pathway, or an event series from scratch and bring it to life.
+Comfort with revenue accountability - this role includes variable compensation tied to channel performance targets, and you're motivated by measurable results alongside program-building.
+Direct experience working with accounting firms, bookkeeping practices, or professional services ecosystems with an understanding of how these businesses operate and what they value in a technology partner.
+Demonstrated content creation skills, ability to write, draft a case study, and create social proof content.
+Comfort presenting on stage, hosting webinars, and representing a brand at industry events.
+A track record of building or significantly growing a partner channel or community, not just managing an existing book of business.
+Familiarity with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred) and marketing tools, with a data-informed approach to reporting on channel performance.
+A consultative, collaborative mindset energized by working with partners to grow their payroll practice with Payworks.

 BONUS SKILL SET
+CPA, CPB, or equivalent professional designation in accounting or bookkeeping considered an asset.
+Experience with Canadian payroll compliance or workforce management solutions considered an asset.
+Bilingual proficiency in English and French considered an asset.
+Experience designing partner certification, enablement, or CPD-eligible training programs considered an asset.

We are proud to support a Flexible Work Plan that recognizes the diverse needs and lifestyles of our people. The National Channel Manager, Accountants & Bookkeepers has the option to work fully at a Payworks office or on a hybrid work model, with flexibility in creating your own schedule. The role is based in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, or Toronto with up to 25% domestic travel.

Payworks welcomes and encourages applications from all persons. Individuals applying for employment with Payworks may request accommodations at all stages of recruitment and employment from Human Resources.

Employees at Payworks' come from different backgrounds, and we celebrate those differences. We are looking for the best candidate for this opportunity, but do not expect applicants to meet every qualification in order to be considered.
