Job description

Open the door to your dream job and join #TeamMainStreet. With more than 40,000 homes in 30 markets, Main Street Renewal is one of the largest providers of single-family rental homes across the country. We understand that our employees are the invaluable drivers of our success. That's why we hire the most talented, passionate individuals who enjoy contributing to a growing, winning team. Here, you'll be a part of a fast-growing company dedicated to providing a best in class leasing and customer service experience to our residents.
Amherst is a financial services and technology company that gives global investors access to the U.S. residential real estate market at scale. Our platform manages thousands of homes and billions of dollars of investment capital - and the software behind it spans the full lifecycle of a home: acquisition, renovation, leasing, maintenance, and sale.
The Senior Software Developer builds and extends the applications that run that operation. This is a hands-on role on a fast-moving Agile delivery team, working across our Salesforce platform, our Node/TypeScript integration services, and our consumer-facing React applications. You will work directly with the technical architect, team lead, and product owner to take work from design through implementation, release, and iteration.
AI is a first-class part of that platform, not a side experiment. We are building LLM-backed and agentic capabilities directly into the products our operators, vendors, and residents use every day - and we expect our engineers to use AI aggressively in how they build. This role sits at the center of both.
We are looking for developers who are scrappy and fast, who bring solutions instead of problems, who understand that code is cost, and who hold a high bar for their own work.
Core Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and ship business-critical applications across the Salesforce Lightning platform (Apex, LWC, Flows) and our custom services and web applications.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Salesforce, our middleware layer, and third-party platforms using REST and SOAP APIs, event-driven patterns, and secure authentication (OAuth, JWT, HMAC).
  • Ship backend RESTful APIs and microservices on Node.js/TypeScript, and front-end features in React.
  • Lead and participate in technical design sessions; evaluate trade-offs in cost, performance, scalability, and technical debt, and make the call clearly.
  • Own features end to end - requirements refinement, development, unit and integration testing, code review, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Set and enforce engineering standards: coding practices, integration patterns, test coverage, documentation, and CI/CD discipline.
  • Support change management, environment strategy, and release activities across development, test, and production.
  • Improve and modernize existing applications and services, including retirement of legacy patterns and reduction of technical debt.
  • Partner with product owners, QA, design, and other technology teams; translate complex technical issues for non-technical audiences.

AI in This Role
We hold two distinct expectations here, and we mean both of them:
1. Building AI into the platform
  • Design and ship features backed by large language models - conversational agents, document and data extraction, summarization, classification, and decision support - integrated into our existing systems of record rather than bolted on beside them.
  • Build agentic workflows that can reason over business context and take real action through governed tools and APIs, with the guardrails, approvals, and audit trails that regulated real estate operations require.
  • Develop and maintain the plumbing that makes this work: model gateways, tool and context layers (including MCP-style tool servers), retrieval pipelines, prompt and context management, and structured output contracts.
  • Treat AI features like any other production system - instrumented, versioned, cost-monitored, and measured against an evaluation set, not judged by demo quality.
  • Apply sound judgment on where AI genuinely belongs. A deterministic API call is often the better answer, and knowing the difference is part of the job.

2. Building with AI
  • Use AI coding assistants and agentic development tools as part of your daily practice to move faster on scaffolding, refactors, test coverage, migrations, and documentation.
  • Help the team raise its own bar - sharing effective patterns, context and prompt strategies, and workflow improvements that compound across the group.
  • Own everything you ship regardless of what generated it. AI-assisted output is held to exactly the same standard for correctness, security, performance, and readability as hand-written code, and you are accountable for it in review.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, with emphasis on application development, integrations, and data-driven systems.
  • 3+ years of hands-on Salesforce development: Apex (triggers, controllers, batch, async), SOQL, Lightning Web Components, Flows, and Service Cloud.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce governor limits, code coverage requirements, standard object model, Salesforce Sites, and integration security.
  • Salesforce development using SFDX and source-driven deployment.
  • Strong foundation in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, HTTP, and RESTful API design.
  • Experience shipping production applications in React (or a comparable modern framework).
  • Experience architecting and shipping backend APIs on Node.js, C#/.NET, or a similar platform.
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational databases.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals - algorithms, data structures, and design patterns.
  • Experience with Git-based source control, code review, and continuous build/deployment pipelines.
  • Working fluency with AI coding assistants and agentic development tools, including a clear point of view on where they help and where they do not.
  • Prior delivery experience in a Scrum or Kanban environment.
  • BS/BA in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Production experience building on foundation model APIs (AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) - tool/function calling, structured outputs, streaming, and cost and latency management.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or context engineering over enterprise data.
  • Experience building or consuming MCP servers, or comparable agent tool-integration frameworks.
  • Experience defining evaluation and regression testing approaches for non-deterministic systems.
  • Salesforce Platform Developer certification.
  • Salesforce Field Service (FSL) and Experience Cloud implementation experience.
  • Experience with .NET Framework or .NET Core.
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS preferred) including serverless architectures.
  • React Native, iOS, or Android development experience.
  • Real estate, fintech, or proptech domain experience.
  • An eye for quality UI/UX.

What We Look For
  • Knowledgeable. You are a real pro with deep command of your stack and its ecosystem.
  • Intellectually curious. You are constantly learning and raising your own bar.
  • AI-forward. You have already changed how you work because of AI, and you are pragmatic rather than credulous about it.
  • Entrepreneurial. You wear many hats and hustle to get things done.
  • Problem solver. You are a critical thinker who brings solutions to the table, not problems.
  • Scrappy and fast. You find creative ways to move work forward and aren't afraid of a tough deadline.
  • Strong communicator. You explain complex technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Accountable. You take ownership, sweat the details, and put team success first.
