What is a Senior Mom Engineer?

A Senior Mom Engineer is not a standard job title in most organizations, but it is often used humorously or informally to describe a mother who uses advanced problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills to manage household and family responsibilities. Much like a senior engineer in a technical field, a Senior Mom Engineer oversees complex projects (such as coordinating family schedules, managing budgets, and troubleshooting daily challenges), often juggling multiple tasks at once. This title recognizes the expertise, creativity, and adaptability that mothers bring to their families, akin to the skills required in engineering roles.

Job description

The position:
A Place for Mom is building the next generation of intelligent, scalable platforms that connect families, providers, and advisors through AI-driven experiences. We're looking for a Sr. Manager of Engineering to lead our B2B engineering team, responsible for the platform that powers how senior care providers manage referrals, relationships, and outcomes at scale.
You will lead a team of engineers, driving delivery, technical quality, and engineering culture across our B2B product surface. This role combines people leadership, technical credibility, and cross-functional partnership to ship high-impact software in a fast-moving environment.
Who you are:
You're an engineering leader who knows how to get the best out of people while keeping technical quality high. You care about team health as much as product delivery, and you build the kind of trust that attracts and retains great engineers.
You're comfortable in the weeds when needed, reading a PR, unblocking an architectural decision, or debugging a thorny production issue, but your default mode is enabling others to do their best work.
What you will do:
  • Lead, grow, and retain the team of engineers across full-stack B2B product development.
  • Own delivery for the B2B platform: planning sprints, managing scope, and removing blockers to keep the team moving.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to translate roadmap priorities into clear, well-scoped engineering work.
  • Set and uphold engineering standards across code quality, testing, observability, and security.
  • Drive technical decisions in collaboration with principal and staff engineers, balancing speed with long-term maintainability.
  • Build a culture of accountability, learning, and psychological safety - running effective 1:1s, performance conversations, and career development planning.
  • Collaborate across the engineering organization to align on shared infrastructure, platform investments, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Contribute to hiring: sourcing, interviewing, and closing strong engineering talent.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Competencies
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2-3 years in an engineering management role.
  • Experience leading teams building B2B SaaS products, ideally on modern JavaScript/TypeScript stacks (React, Next.js, Node.js).
  • Strong track record of delivering reliable, high-quality software in a product-led environment.
  • Able to engage technically - review architecture proposals, give meaningful code feedback, and make sound tradeoff decisions.
  • Excellent communicator who can operate comfortably across engineers, product managers, and senior leadership.
  • Experience with agile delivery practices, sprint planning, and cross-functional roadmap execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow engineers through coaching, feedback, and structured career development.

Preferred Experience:
  • Familiarity with API-driven architectures, event-driven systems, or real-time communication platforms (Twilio, Customer.io).
  • Exposure to data and analytics tooling (PostHog, Databricks, or similar) and building data-informed products.
  • Background in multi-tenant SaaS or platforms serving enterprise or SMB customers.
  • Experience partnering with AI/ML teams to bring model-powered features into production.
  • Prior experience scaling or restructuring engineering teams through periods of growth or transition.

Compensation:
  • Base Salary: $135,000 to $170,000
  • Bonus: 20% of annual earnings
  • Benefits:
    • 401(k) plus match
    • Dental insurance
    • Health insurance
    • Vision Insurance
    • Paid Time Off
