How much do senior modeling jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for senior modeling in Oregon is $84,886.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $43,900.00 and $108,900.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges senior modelers face when working on complex projects, and how can they be addressed?

Senior Modeling professionals often encounter challenges such as integrating large and diverse datasets, ensuring model accuracy, and effectively communicating technical findings to non-technical stakeholders. Addressing these challenges requires strong collaboration with data engineers, subject matter experts, and decision-makers, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and validation of models. Utilizing robust model validation techniques, staying updated on industry best practices, and fostering open communication within cross-functional teams can help overcome these hurdles and drive project success.

What is the difference between Senior Modeling vs Data Analyst?

AspectSenior ModelingData Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field; experience with modeling softwareBachelor's in Statistics, Data Science, or related field; proficiency in data analysis tools
Work EnvironmentFinancial institutions, consulting firms, or tech companies focusing on predictive modelsBusiness, marketing, or operations teams analyzing data sets
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in finance, insurance, and tech for predictive modelingCommon across industries for data interpretation and reporting

Senior Modeling professionals focus on developing complex predictive models and algorithms, often requiring advanced quantitative skills. Data Analysts interpret data, generate reports, and support decision-making. While both roles work with data, Senior Modeling emphasizes model creation and validation, whereas Data Analysts focus on data interpretation and visualization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior modeler?

To thrive as a Senior Modeler, you need advanced expertise in quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and a relevant degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, or a related field. Mastery of tools such as Python, R, SAS, and familiarity with data visualization and modeling software are typically required, along with certifications like FRM or CFA being advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for developing accurate models, interpreting complex data, and providing actionable insights to guide business or research decisions.

What is a senior modeler?

Senior Modeling professionals are experts who create, manage, and analyze complex mathematical, statistical, or computational models to solve business or scientific problems. They often work in industries like finance, engineering, data science, and environmental science, using advanced modeling techniques to forecast outcomes, optimize processes, or simulate scenarios. These professionals typically have extensive experience and may also lead teams, mentor junior staff, and contribute to strategy development within their organizations.

Job description

Core4ce is seeking a Senior Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineer to support the Integrated Healthcare Transformation (IHT) initiative within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This role is responsible for the design, development, and execution of complex, multi-system simulations that model healthcare workflows, system architectures, and technical infrastructures. The Senior Engineer will work closely with stakeholders to define simulation goals, identify critical variables, and produce data-driven insights that inform technical decisions and optimize healthcare delivery systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination with government customers and stakeholders to identify model requirements, simulation objectives, and key performance variables.
  • Design, develop, and execute complex, multi-system simulations to evaluate the performance, reliability, and scalability of healthcare technology solutions.
  • Construct custom simulations tailored to specific customer specifications and operational scenarios.
  • Perform software modeling and device characterization to ensure accurate representation of system components within simulated environments.
  • Develop both "hard" (hardware-in-the-loop) and "soft" (purely software/mathematical) models to support diverse testing requirements.
  • Conduct parametric testing and implement measurement automation to increase the efficiency and accuracy of simulation cycles.
  •  Analyze simulation data to identify system bottlenecks, vulnerabilities, and potential areas for optimization.
  • Document and report on test results, providing clear, actionable insights to technical users and program management.
  • Establish simulation frameworks that support the validation of interoperability and data exchange standards across disparate healthcare systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in the selection of M&S tools, languages, and methodologies appropriate for large-scale enterprise transformation.
  • Collaborate with system architects and engineers to integrate modeling and simulation into the broader engineering and software development lifecycles.
  • Manage the lifecycle of simulation assets, ensuring models are maintained, version-controlled, and updated as system requirements evolve.

*This position is designed to be flexible, with responsibilities evolving to meet business needs and enable individual growth.

Required Qualifications

  •  Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance for this role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in modeling and simulation engineering.
  • Experience supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), or Department of Defense (DoD) in a modeling and simulation capacity.
  • Extensive experience in model design and execution, specifically involving complex, multi-system environments.
  • Proven track record of developing software modeling, device characterization, and hard/soft modeling solutions.
  • Strong experience in parametric testing and the implementation of measurement automation scripts/tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate directly with customers to translate business needs into technical simulation requirements and goals.
  • Proficiency in simulation languages and tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, AnyLogic, Arena, OPNET, or similar enterprise-grade M&S software).
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience documenting test plans, simulation architectures, and final analytical reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to visualize complex system interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modeling clinical workflows, patient flow, or healthcare information technology (HIT) infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) and their application within simulated data exchanges.
  • Experience working within an Agile or SAFe environment, providing simulation support for incremental feature development.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based simulation environments and high-performance computing (HPC) resources.
