The Senior Microsoft Cloud Engineer provides advanced engineering, operational, and advisory support across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Microsoft Security platforms. This role ensures the reliability, scalability, security, and compliance of enterprise Microsoft cloud environments through expert-level design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance aligned with NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-207 (Zero Trust), and FedRAMP Moderate requirements.
This position currently requires an on-site schedule. Schedule is subject to change based on company/contract requirements. Must perform change operations during off-hours as needed, with approvals required for any changes causing disruptions during core business hours.
This position is currently unfunded and is being posted in anticipation of a future contract award and funding approval. We are proactively identifying and engaging with qualified candidates. While candidates may be contacted for pre-screening, any hiring decisions will be contingent upon funding availability and final program requirements or client approval.
Responsibilities
Microsoft Cloud Platform Engineering
  • Design, implement, operate, and optimize Microsoft 365, Azure, and Microsoft Security services to ensure performance, scalability, and mission alignment.
  • Provide Azure infrastructure and application support, including networking, workload configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and hybrid environment integration.

Security Architecture & Zero Trust
  • Implement and maintain cloud security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-207, and FedRAMP Moderate.
  • Apply Zero Trust principles including least privilege, continuous verification, conditional access, and privileged access management.
  • Configure and manage Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and Purview to support threat protection, governance, information protection, and incident response readiness.
  • Manage and monitor Sentinel data sources and log ingestion quality.

Identity & Access Management
  • Administer and secure Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access, privileged access controls, and hybrid identity architectures.
  • Implement MFA provider transitions, 3rd-party MFA integration, Smart Card, and FIDO-based authentication across Windows and macOS.

  • Manage and support Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and related Microsoft 365 workloads, ensuring availability, security, and compliance.
  • Perform advanced administrative tasks including headless Exchange Online provisioning and SharePoint user profile imports using secure PowerShell and Graph API operations.

Endpoint & Device Management
  • Create and manage Windows, macOS, and iOS devices via Intune, including compliance policies, configuration profiles, and endpoint security.
  • Build, configure, and operate Autopilot image delivery pipelines and software deployment for enterprises of 700+ endpoints.

Operational Governance & Documentation
  • Support formal change management processes and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, training materials, and architectural diagrams.
  • Implement automated reporting and dashboards using Power BI-covering system health, compliance, cost forecasting, utilization, and budget tracking.
  • Set up Azure spending budgets with monitoring, alerting, and forecasting to prevent cost overruns.

Incident Response & Continuity
  • Develop and implement incident response and disaster recovery playbooks integrated with organizational COOP and IR documentation.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a senior advisor to engineering, cybersecurity, and cloud operations teams.
  • Provide expert guidance during audits, assessments, compliance reviews, and resolution of complex technical issues.
