Job description

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking an experienced Researcher Senior to join our team. As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities overseeing multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves performing cell and tissue culture, running and maintenance of the Ussing chamber, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes across the team. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high impact publications. This also includes management of institutional regulations, training, and compliance documentation for a small research team, learning from laboratory manager. Depending on the research focus, this position will involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimen allocation - specifically involving human and/or ferret samples.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Performs basic theoretical, experimental scientific, and technological investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge using cell and tissue culture models.

  2. Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses.

  3. Generate scientific publication, quality experimental findings and conclusions and presents same at appropriate scientific conferences and forums.

  4. Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement.

  5. Proposes improvements to processes.

  6. May act as a project or team lead, coordinating and facilitating the tasks of others.

  7. Analyzes complex technical problems and delivers solutions where precedent may not exist.

  8. Manages laboratory compliance with institutional training and hazard requirements for small 3-person lab team under direction of laboratory manager.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $60,835- $ 79,085

Qualifications 

 Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
