Senior Malware Reverse Engineer information
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Malware Reverse Engineer, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by Senior Malware Reverse Engineers when analyzing advanced threats?
What are Senior Malware Reverse Engineers?
What is the difference between Senior Malware Reverse Engineer vs Malware Analyst?
| Aspect | Senior Malware Reverse Engineer | Malware Analyst |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Advanced reverse engineering skills, certifications like GREM, OSCP | Basic reverse engineering, malware analysis certifications, security certifications |
| Work Environment | Deep technical analysis, reverse engineering malware samples | Analyzing malware behavior, creating reports, threat intelligence |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Cybersecurity firms, government agencies, large corporations | Security teams, incident response, threat intelligence units |
The main difference is that Senior Malware Reverse Engineers focus on dissecting and understanding malware at a code level, often developing tools or signatures. Malware Analysts typically analyze malware behavior and create reports to inform security measures. Both roles require strong technical skills, but the reverse engineer role is more specialized in code analysis and reverse engineering techniques.

Work location: Mendon, UT
Interview: Video
Job Type: Contract
Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibilities include designing and installing electrical subsystems on small robots and other ground-based vehicles and coordinating design and installations under the direction of senior electrical and/or mechanical engineers. Design includes electrical topology of Drive By Wire systems (what parts, where and how to connect them) based on similar systems. This includes harness design and pin mapping (similar to reverse engineering), as well as building and testing wiring harnesses, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electrical wiring where necessary and applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, and electronic and electrical testing. Examples of troubleshooting include analyzing serial bus (i.e. CAN) electrical signals and data.
May be required to do some: Electronic modules programming, lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, test equipment, and machine tool numerical controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics. Usually work under direction of more senior engineering staff, with little to no supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs Electrical System diagrams including harnesses.
Works closely with other engineers on routing harnesses and placing electronic modules.
Programs embedded modules (logical visual programming language).
Assembles and tests experimental wiring harnesses, electronic modules, and other electrical equipment and components.
Troubleshoots electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations.
Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunctions or failures of operational equipment and performs preventive and corrective actions.
Works from wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion and performs installation.
Adjusts and replaces defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron.
Tests electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
Plans, completes, and records periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
May perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems.
Maintains working knowledge of state-of-the-art tools or software by reading or attending conferences, workshops or other training.
What are the Mandatory skills and skill proficiencies required for this position?
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS
Bachelor s degree in Electrical / Electronic engineering or related field. May consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
5-7 years' experience with electronics systems integration and troubleshooting, test equipment usage including Oscilloscope, multi-meter, protocol analyzers, various power supplies, and some electronic modules programming.
Experience with CAD/Circuit design.
Must be knowledgeable in building and testing harnesses according to IPC/WHMA-A-620.
Knowledge of electronics wire routings.
Experience with basic office software including word processing, spreadsheet, Outlook and calendaring.
Must have some basic mechanical assembly knowledge.
Experience using hand tools is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel and regularly required to walk, stand, and bend in the performance of daily responsibilities
Must be able to work on and around heavy equipment including the ability to climb on and off large machines.
