Job description

Job Title: Senior Mainframe Developer & Production Support Specialist (Auto Finance)

Location: Torrance, CA

Job Type: 1 Year Contract (Possible Extension/Conversion)



About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer & Production Support Specialist with deep domain expertise in Automotive Finance. In this role, you will lead application development, perform system enhancements, and drive production support operations for large-scale financial applications.

You will be instrumental in optimizing overnight batch windows, resolving complex online and batch abends, and ensuring the seamless delivery of high-volume financial transactions across the auto lending lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Application Development & Enhancements: Design, code, unit test, and implement robust mainframe solutions using COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and MQ.
  • Production Support & Abend Resolution: Research and troubleshoot complex mainframe online and batch abends, performing root-cause analysis and delivering permanent fixes.
  • Batch Performance Tuning: Analyze daily and monthly batch jobs to optimize execution times, eliminate bottlenecks, and shorten the critical path window.
  • System & Impact Analysis: Conduct end-to-end impact analysis across interfacing applications and platforms for new business requirements and project releases.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare clear, comprehensive documentation for system designs, technical specifications, test plans, and work estimates.
  • On-Call Operations: Participate in an off-hours on-call rotation to support critical production batch processes.


Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • Core Technical Stack: Hands-on experience with IBM Mainframe technologies- COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and IBM MQ.
  • Domain Expertise: Solid business knowledge of Automotive Finance and Financial Services servicing, including:
    • Payment Processing & Taxes
    • Customer Service Operations
    • End of Term, Extensions, and Lease Management
    • Collections, Delinquency Tracking, Repossession, Charge-Offs, and Recovery
    • Bankruptcy Processing and Accounting
  • Batch & Support: Proven track record in mainframe batch monitoring, performance tuning, and production issue resolution.
  • Testing & QA: Expertise in unit testing, integration testing, and writing test scripts/scenarios.


Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Hands-on experience with the FIS Systematics banking/lending core platform.
