Job description

Description:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a CRE loan portfolio based upon Bank underwriting standards, while managing the relationships within that portfolio. These customer relationships will have a primary emphasis on lending, but they may also facilitate providing customary commercial deposit services. This loan portfolio may include a wide variety of commercial property types, may be national, regional or local in scope, and may be focused on term lending or on acquisition, development and construction (ADC) lending, according to the experience and goals of the loan officer.
  • Develop and maintain quality loan referral sources. Visit and keep in contact with clients and prospective clients regularly, while assessing their financial requirements, and recommending suitable banking products and services.
  • Analyze financial statements, business plans, relevant online information, financing requests, and collateral characteristics, to assess the viability of credit inquiries received by the Bank. If the borrower qualifies, the Senior Commercial Loan Officer should then be able to quickly formulate an appropriate financing structure, presenting this structure to his or her immediate supervisor for conceptual concurrence, followed by issuance of a terms letter.
  • Prepare detailed written loan approval requests as necessary to seek loan approvals through the Bank’s internal processes. This includes making in-person presentations to the Loan Committee.
  • Navigate through the loan closing process, coordinating the closing with other Bank personnel and outside counsel where necessary, as well as with the borrower.
  • Maintain the credit quality of the portfolio and periodically obtain updated financial information from borrowers; prepare periodic loan review reports; and keep in contact with all borrowers.
  • Maintain the proper risk rating of all credits in the portfolio, as well as initiating upgrades or downgrades where appropriate.
  • Follow-up on all past due loans and overdrafts, noting and making referrals as appropriate for any problem loans.
  • Initiate workouts of substandard credits when needed, working with Bank workout personnel as necessary.
  • Track the maturity dates of all loans in the portfolio and prepare timely loans renewals, making sure that no matured loans remain in the portfolio, except where there is a preapproved “strategic” decision to allow the loan to go into maturity.
  • Know and understand the Bank’s Credit Policy and adhere to this Policy when originating, structuring, and monitoring loans, obtaining approval of any policy exceptions when appropriate. Develop expertise in targeted lending geographies and industries to enhance individual competitiveness within the broad marketplace.
  • Build effective relationships within different internal departments of the Bank to facilitate an efficient commercial lending process and to provide a prompt and smooth customer experience.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in successful commercial real estate lending through an established and well-performing, self-originated portfolio of customer CRE loans.
  • Effective loan origination sales and promotion skills.
  • Ability to creatively structure and initially underwrite own originated CRE loans.
