Job Description:
Apex Systems is seeking a Windows & Linux Systems Administrator to support a Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) network and secure enclaves supporting NIWC Pacific. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and enhancing existing infrastructure while supporting the design and implementation of new system capabilities in a highly secure environment.
This position requires a hands-on systems administrator with experience supporting both Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, automation, system hardening, and cybersecurity compliance initiatives.
Location: San Diego, CA (100% Onsite)
Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $50-$55/hr // $105k - $115k conversion target
Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Certification Required: IAT Level II (Security+ CE, GSEC, SCNP, or SSCP)

Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Windows 11 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute PowerShell and Bash scripts for automation and system administration tasks.
  • Support the engineering, design, and implementation of infrastructure upgrades and new capabilities.
  • Harden systems in accordance with DISA security requirements, including STIGs, CTOs, and related guidance.
  • Automate system administration and configuration management activities using Ansible playbooks.
  • Apply security updates, patches, and support the IAVM process.
  • Maintain asset tracking databases and inventory records.
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
  • Assist with procurement activities, including obtaining vendor quotes and coordinating equipment purchases.
  • Support logistics efforts, including shipping equipment to remote teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, GSEC, SCNP, or SSCP).
  • 3+ years of Windows system administration experience.
  • 3+ years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining PowerShell and Bash scripts.
  • Experience managing vulnerabilities, patches, and security compliance through the IAVM process.
  • Strong understanding of system hardening and DISA STIG implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience automating administrative tasks using Ansible.
  • Experience supporting endpoint security solutions.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices within DoD environments.
  • Experience supporting classified or secure enclave environments.
